I was listening to ESPN's Russillo and Kanell on the radio at lunch and they said that NFL style college coaches such as Bielema and Saban desire an end to HUNH offenses because, according to Bielema and Saban, HUNH offenses increase risk of injury.

This is nothing new. Everyone on tRant knows that Saban and Beilema have been against the HUNH.

However, the radio host played a Bielema recording from just a week ago, and what Bielema said is sort of concerning for teams who run the HUNH.

I'll summarize Bielema's recorded comments to the best of my ability:

quote:

Bielema said that he sits on a Rules Committee and the HUNH was brought up for debate. Bielema made it clear in the Rules Committee that he's very much against the HUNH because he believes it increases injuries. However, he was surprised when a television angle entered the equation.

He said television executives hate the HUNH because they cannot properly plan programming around games that may last 1.5 hours to 3 hours. Bielema said that television executives are going to change the game. They are going to make the college games more like the NFL games to force games to fit into certain programming molds. His belief is that this change will happen very soon.

He said it's all about the mighty dollar and the television execs will win out in the end, which is good for coaches like him and Saban.

Dirty fricking rotten scoundrels.

Games last less than 3 hours?

The HUNH is a complete disservice to some of these players at the bigger schools that have NFL hopes. However, it's not a college coach's problem if their players are NFL ready. His only job is to win college football games and right now it's the hot offense. There aren't many football coaches asking their QBs to stand in a pocket and read defenses. It's mostly one read and go type schemes.

I don't like the HUNH, but more commercials and less football is not the answer.

I was listening to ESPN radio Russillo and Kanell at lunch.

I don't have a link at this time but they are the show that aired Bielema's comments.

They played back his conversation and he flat out said television execs will end the HUNH to fit college games into a certain programming mold.

He said that television execs view the HUNH as a programming nightmare.

I don't think a lot of people put their trust in Bert. Except maybe the pigs, but they fell in line when that scum Petrino was hired.

For the record, Bielema's concern is based on players with sickle-cell whose symptoms come upon them suddenly. While it may sound rare there are usually 1 or 2 ask on every team (according to him, have not verified). His concern is that a player would not be able to leave the field if his team is out of timeouts.

His suggestion was for 10 seconds of substitutions allowed on 1st down only. He cited the fact that even HUNH offenses rarely snap the ball before 10 seconds has elapsed.

It's a valid concern and reasonable solution but too many dismiss it as "hurr i don't want to play fast teams" even that's not the case at all.

I will ask you this, where do almost all the sickle cell/player deaths happen?

Hint, its not during a game. And Ole Bert says nothing about it

well if he addressed where there is data rather than making up shite about the HUNH, then people might not dismiss it
