Brandon Allen, a senior from the University of Arkansas, has been selected as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. He earns the honor over seven other Manning Award Stars of the Week in the Allstate Sugar Bowl's Facebook contest. He is the first quarterback to win the honor twice this season.
The Fayetteville, Ark., native registered career-highs in passing yards and touchdowns as he completed 33-of-45 passes for 442 yards and six touchdowns. He capped his impressive performance by scoring on a leaping two-point conversion in overtime to lift the Razorbacks to a 53-52 victory over No. 18 Ole Miss. Making his 30th consecutive start under center, Allen's 33 completions were also a program record while his 442 yards were the second-most in Arkansas history. He was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week.
Allen's top competition came from Mississippi State's Dak Prescott and Chad Kelly of Ole Miss. Prescott completed 27-of-40 passes for 303 yards and four touchdowns, becoming the 10th player in SEC history to tally 10,000 yards of offense, in the Bulldogs' 31-13 road victory over Missouri. Kelly went 24-of-34 with 368 yards and three touchdowns, tallying his seventh 300-yard game and also rushing for a career-high 110 yards and three touchdowns, but it's not enough for the Rebels who are upended by Arkansas, 53-52, in overtime.

Remember before the season when I tried to dispell the myth that Brandon Allen would hold Arkansas back? Here's some dandy replies to that thread:
quote:
He's probably the 4th best qb in the West but that doesn't mean he's bad.
quote:
He sucks
quote:
But he's not going to light up a stat sheet. His completion percentage is bad and I don't think he has big play ability.
quote:
He's decent at best.
quote:
Hate to burst your bubble, but Chris Relf was once named to the Manning Award watch list.
quote:
Most people think he is a non-factor. Won't win games for them...
quote:
He's very average. Weak arm, not mobile.
quote:
If Bielema had Kyle Allen instead of Brandon Allen, he'd be competing for the division.
quote:
No Kyle Allen [on the Manning award watch list]. This list is bullshite. He's one of the top 5 returning qbs in the country.

How many times have you guys set his truck on fire?

With a whopping 6 SEC wins in 3 years. Nothing to be to proud of there Rusty.
But then again you were probably in the bunch saying Tyler Wislon should have been the first QB taken. How'd that pan out for ya.

I never waivered in brandon. my father is one of these losers who keep bringing up his records and ignore the shite hand he was dealt and the shite roster petrino left. I have tried to get him to eat crow about brandon here lately and he just wont. it makes me dislike my own father a bit because I realize he is just a stubborn dumbass in some respects. when I told him he was the national player of the week he said "for what?" for being a bad arse thats what! smh...

Allen's playing very well at the moment. But seriously... what is he ... 28 years old now?

me too. Wilson wouldn't have started in this offense. without bobby to tell him where to throw the ball he was below average and it showed when he couldn't beat Pryor in oakland.

I'll say I thought clay travis was an arse hole for that column but I've come to realize alot of our fan base is stupid as frick when it comes to football.

In all seriousness, there aren't a whole lot of qbs that can actually read a defense, Brandon is one of those guys

All forgiven. Just glad to see him stick it out and turn it around. Good for him.

That #80 is a solid player too. Like his toughness.
