I read in the newspaper today that he transferred to Texas A&M from TCU, but sat out last season. Why did he have to sit out a year? I thought the NCAA allowed transfers to be available for the next season? Did I miss a rule change in the past few years?

Fishfinder....I always thought that baseball players were allowed to transfer without having to sit out a season.

That's pretty much the way it has been for a few decades, at least. There are exceptions for family hardship, and the rule doesn't apply for graduates or JUCO transfers. But everybody else sits a year.

Trying to recall the player's name....damn, tough when you get old lol. Andy Sheets --- pretty sure he moved over to LSU from Tulane and did not sit out a season

Like what was said, their are exceptions. But sitting out a year is still the norm. Otherwise there would be D1 coaches trying to recruit kids from other D1 schools. Would not be pretty.

There are very few instances that you don't have to sit out a year. I believe these include Family hardship,NCAA sanctions against the school, and graduate transfers.

A&M has really benefited from the transfer rules since joining the SEC. Brandon Williams (OU), Tra Carson (Oregon), Trevor Knight (OU), Keith Ford (OU), Priest Willis (UCLA) and Kalvin Cline (VT) in football.

Danuel House (UH), Jalen Jones (SMU), and Anthony Collins (USF) for the SEC Championship Basketball team.

Kelsey Bone (USC) who led A&M's women's basketball to their first SEC title before becoming a WNBA All-star.
