Talking about if Stidham was oversold and overrated. Booger said no, he'll be just fine and that AU has to do a better job protecting him.

While I agree, they obviously have to protect him more, he was absolutely oversold in the offseason (Especially on this board).

The party line last week was "We will know everything we need to know after Clemson game" What say AU fans now?

Sounds reasonable.

Just wonder if he is just programmed to scramble fro his baylor days. The o-line isnt use to it and/or the receivers. Also he needs to learn how to throw the ball away.

He get one or 2 series together they beat clemson.

Couldn't agree more. There is no doubt the dude can ball, but his decision making under pressure is whats questionable to me.

Tend to agree. Clemson probably has a championship level defense.

Well we did learn everything that we needed to know about our team after the Clemson game. It was very eye opening in a very gruesome, ugly way.

That our coach sucks at scouting his own team. No way in hell our LT should be playing. He is not doing something correct in fall camp and practice. Former player told me he does not even practice 1s vs 1s in fall camp. That is a good place to start looking at issues.

He was afraid to throw the ball unless his guy was completely wide open (although he did throw a couple into single/double coverage). What I was watching was the WR's while Stidham was holding the ball...there were very few open guys...but lots of single covered big strong guys that he could have trusted to go up and win the ball, like Clemson did with their throws (during their 2 successful drives). I watched one play on a 3rd and 8. We knew they were coming with the blitz. The WR's didn't turn their heads around to look for the ball until they were 15-20 yards downfield. That's not the OL. That's not Stidham. That's playcalling...and it was awful. What does even the casual fan know you do against a blitz to keep it in check? Screens and quick slants. As far as I can tell, we didn't throw a single quick slant, and only one poor attempt at a screen.

Stidham has the arm, but doesn't seem to have it upstairs. He reminds me of the first quarterback in Necessary Roughness before Scott Bakula took over.

He might not like taking the hit to his completion %.

They will be with you in a few days. The melt is too strong with them right now. Historically, its one of the best melts Ive seen over there. Cat 5 melt

But to answer your question, there was zero protection and we needed some short routes so he could get rid of the ball faster. The Clemson D is really and I am not sure if we did not call enough short routes or if they were called and just covered.
Plus, our one good running back was injured and very rusty. He was not game ready either way.

Its a combination of our QB and RB not being ready along with our Oline not being able to block Clemson who is very very good up front.

Stidham will be OK but its going to take some time for Auburn to change from a Running offense to a passing offense. Which is dumb in the first place. Gus is not a passing offense play caller. His skills are for a running offense (like 2013 and 2014) and that is what we should have stuck with. Not try and re invent the wheel

They will be right with you soon to let you know that last nights performance was due to our AD, head coach, Janitor in the math building and boosters who medal too much in the football affairs. Oh and our school president who does not care about athletics

I think it had more to do with the play calling...and
no blocking up front... but nubbie is out of his league.

They got to him about 3 times straight up...and one of those times, the DE jumped the snap on Prince and looked offsides to me. The rest of the time, he just held the ball WAAAY too long...and any time any Orange got anywhere near him, he started scrambling around...very poorly. We were getting to Bryant also...the difference was that he was a much better scrambler, and Clemson F***ING ADJUSTED with short passing routes, quick slants, etc... you know, BASIC GOD**** FOOTBALL

several times I saw a clean pocket and stidham got scared and ran straight into the end who was tied up with a block. also saw the receivers running their "go long turn around and stand there" backyard "routes". its a combination of our coach being a moron and our QB now realizing there is no "philosophy" to this offense and he is completely fricked and on his own.

One of the things that stood out to me that I can't figure out:

Braden Smith was often lined up as an extra tackle or tight end. What was the plan with that? Smith is your best guard. Pettway is an inside runner. Put Smith and Golson next to each other and let Pettway pound it up the middle. I know the Clemson tackles are great. But what did Gus think would be the outcome of putting his best players in position to do something that isn't their strength?

How many times did Gus run Pettway off tackle for a gain of 1-2 yards? Pettway wasn't even 100%. They missed Kerryon in this game. Is there nobody else behind him?

He was terrible. Hurts was under as much pressure against FSU and took a couple sacks, but 11? That's not on the oline.

That this is the same program it's been for a few seasons now; one that can recruit good players like the #1 overall recruit, #1 transfer QB, and a top receiver class and fail to develop them and/or build around them schematically.
