When Tennessee hired him last year he was considered one of the better D coordinators in the country. He's been nothing but a steaming pile of dog shite since he's been in Knoxville. Yes he had injuries last year but when you make 1.1 million a year, you're suppose to be creative and overcome these issues. Against GA Tech he had nine month's to prepare for the flex bone option. With all that time to prepare he gave up over 600 yds of offense and 530 yds of that was on the ground. Penn State is in the process of suing Shoop for breach of contract, Tennessee should sue him for being a fraud.

Why don't you see how they do against a traditional offense first?

Tennessee fans said injuries were the reason why they gave up so many rushing yards last season. Looks like Shoop just sucks.

If a coach can't prepare for the option when he has 8 months to it means he sucks.

Between him and Chavis I feel sorry for the vols that y'all have to put up with bad D play. I hope to God that we don't end up regretting Cheney as bad.

Were they supposed to practice for it all the time every day? Everyone I've ever heard that has played the game at higher than a high school level says you can only prepare for it so much.

You still have the rest of your schedule to practice for and it's an offense that when it's well executed it's very difficult to defend.

It makes no sense... he was good at vandy and penn st. Getting him was a hell of a steal for Jones (ad the time).

^This. I don't expect the defense to be great this year but they're not going to be anything like the Gt game either. Playing a yard off the ball to prevent cut blocking gave Tech chunk yardage all night long. We won't be lining up like that again this year. We also played our DBs very differently both in terms of their responsibilities and in terms of personnel.

We won't know much until we play a traditional Offense.

Very strange considering how good he was at Vandy and Penn State.

I believe VOLS are pretty weak on talent on defense though.

Tennessee was killed by the dive up the middle the entire game. The alarming thing for Tennessee fans is Shoop was clueless and didn't know how to adjust his line to stop the simplest play in Tech's playbook.

The reason we were killed by the dive is because we stayed 1 yard off the LOS to prevent cut blocking. That also took the triple option away from tech. If you'll remember we stopped GT the first couple of drives. Tech adjusted and didn't run the triple option again (they ran more double option and veer). We stayed a yard or more off which gave them the dive all night long.

No idea why we kept to the formation we did even after it was clear PJ had gone away from the triple option.

To the tune of 600 yards.
