It's weird, because when I look this up, it appears that the University of Alabama holds the national championship for that year.

But I also see that the University of Arkansas claims a single national championship, and it is for that same year, 1964.

What's the deal? If Alabama won the national championship in 1964, wouldn't that mean that Arkansas has never won a national championship ever in its 150 years of playing collegiate football?

What's going on here?

Without looking, I'd assume Arkansas.

Arkansas had to sit in the back of the bus that year.

It isn't fair but it was the law of the land in 1964.

Alabama and Arkansas.

Some outfits gave it to Notre Dame and some even more obscure title went to Michigan.

Getting this hard reality check these past two weeks has been about as painful as being a fan can be. I for one bought all the way into the hype surrounding this team through October. Number two in the nation ranking. Clear cut Heisman frontrunner. Four year cycle. On and on.

Btw, the polls fricked up so bad in awarding it to bama, at least one of them changed the way they vote to try and make up for it.

Nope, Both wire services on Bama. If you're gonna discount our non wire titles, you need to do it here too. That wouldn't be what you want to see though. What isn't debateable is that Bama was NC.

I'd give it to tFlagship because of Bama's mathematical propensity to make up Natties. Plus a flawed system polled the champ prior to the bowl game.

Plus tFlagship was undefeated and Gumps lost the Rose Bowl game to Texas, which Arky defeated that year.

But they lost their last regular season game and they didn't play in bowls back then.

Yeah. The AP changed it up in '65 and went right back to the old system in '66.

They changed it for that 1 year because they were so damn embarrassed at the frick up of giving it to bama.

Piglets were the 64 champ.

Bowls didn't count back then. Several blue bloods didn't even play in them. We could've done the same. But that was the system. whether fair or not, I don't know, my dad was 12 at the time.

I do know we won the main polls of the time. If you don't think it was fair we got '64, just pretend we claim '66 instead. Otherwise, go cry in a corner.

I always heard that only AP titles matter so I guess the AP champ. Who was that?
