Total bullshite. In football, Bama can match anyone. basketball no. Football yes. Bama was ready, able and willing to pony up 10 mill a year but we didnt have to because Bama doesnt take a backseat to Tejas or anybody else. Bama is a blueblood, second to none facilities, support, ability to recruit with unlimited resources and a name that rivals anyone.

Second, if Saban really wanted to BE AT TEXAS, he would be there. TODAY, this very day, Saban can have any job in America high school, college or pro he wants and yes, LSU would run off Miles in a nano second if Saban made one phone call saying he wanted to come back and if you dont believe that you are living in fantasy land. He could have that job this very day as we speak.

The combination of one fan/reporter with frosted tips and another who is morbidly obese and lisps like he's auditioning for a role in The Bird Cage, both of whom gossip like old washerwomen and crave attention like 15 year old girls, and neither of whom have a sense of shame or propriety, with a donor base made up of jealous, pompous old men who feel compelled to flaunt whatever inside knowledge or influence they may or may not have to everyone they meet so they can feel superior and one-up their golf buddies makes for a lot of interesting, though hardly ever accurate fables filled with slander, libel, and innuendo, in the form of sporting news "stories" being written or relayed on the radio here in Austin.

This type of obsession with image is not anything new from that athletic department.

But I would question:

1. Whether that was actually something that Bill Powers was concerned with. Sounds like a made up story.

2. Whether Bill Powers' opinion had any impact on the process anyway. Would they have hired him? Yes. Easy to say they had questions after the fact.

The only time Bama is said to cheat is when they are locked in a battle with Auburn over an Alabama kid. And then it ain't cheating. It is called "recruiting him hard."

Im just curious what you think that Texas could offer that Alabama cant. I mean I think its great that Saban turned down more money because he loves being at Alabama but not sure where you are getting this.

If it is a money issue, if Texas wanted to open up the checkbook and price was no object, Alabama could not touch them. Does Alabama own mineral rights in multiple sections of public school lands in west Texas like UT does and can do with it as it wants? Do they have guys like Moncrief and Red McCombs? If it was sheer money and Texas really wanted a money war, they would swamp Alabama. I know the state of Alabama would bankrupt itself for football, but Texas would pay the same amount and be just fine.

However, if I am a fotball coach....Texas is not as attractive as it would seem. At Texas, the boosters own you no matter what you do

There are quite a few really rich boosters, who don't all get along, who are all jealous of each other's power and influence with the program, who all have loose, braggadocios mouths

Yep, and their Daddies were probably all drinking buddies with DKR and they all want to be the next football coach's drinkin' buddy and they want to be on his speed dial.

There is so much politics involving the Texas program it's ridiculous and it affects the football program like a cancer periodically. Prior to Mack Brown if a coach did not kiss the arse of DKR he was toast

That's why Chip Brown is wrong 99% of the time.

I don't think that's really fair.
1) Chip Brown just being useless has to factor into this and
2) I'm not sure that Chip Brown is even right 1% of the time

He's worthless, and apparently still on the air on am1300 in the morning. smh

Texas is a public university. They cannot just throw $20 million a year at a football coach. They are expected to pay a fair market value. You damn sure can't raid things like your endowment for paying a football coach. Plus Alabama profited more from athletics than Texas.

They were flying to games on the team plane when Mack was head coach. That's emblematic of the booster culture there. Saban's decision had nothing to do with cheating or money. He already has money. Saban likes winning and he likes control and for him control is a means to winning. He was never going to go somewhere where he didn't have control over the program. At UT the head coach is contractually obligated to do interviews for shows on the LHN which are time-consuming enough that even Mack complained about them.

Does anyone with even a modicum of knowledge of Saban think he is amenable to spending an hour a day or more with he LHN, after kissing the rings of several boosters who won't leave the football facility all morning, after having to listen to the AD and university president the afternoon before give him a talking-to about not practicing over-signing and how they also want him more involved in the community, while waiting for some stupid, back-stabbing rumor to be relayed on the radio by Chip Brown that was leaked to him by an angry booster who was told he couldn't lift weights with the football team anymore?

Hell no. He is paid handsomely by Alabama, has full control of the program, has no problem recruiting there, is worshiped like a god, and is still winning. If you have never passed up more money because you know that the company that is offering it is a poison pill and your life would suck there then you are either still a college student or not very good at what you do. I can definitely understand staying in a good spot for slightly less money rather than trying to run a known circus.

Every school in America would hire Saban unless he was caught with a live boy or a dead girl.

Actually, I'm not sure those things would result in much more than a charitable contribution.

I think you don't understand the state of Texas money situation.

A&M and tu can throw as much money as they want at something......that includes football coaches.

This is not the time to take the job at tu.

What was Strong, the 7th or 8th choice? It was and still is for the next few years, not a job the greats, like Saban want to take a chance a ruining their career.

Strong could not turn the free money down. I don't blame him but he will never be successful in Austin. If he had not taken the job, another mercenary, Todd Graham would have.

It will be a good job again. Not sure when that would be.

My guess is the guy after Strong's replacement will be the next hero.

I am just enjoying this watching them not sell out Notre Dame. The only people left by halftime will be the mom and dads of the band members.
