I got to meet Bill Battle at a ceremony for Larry Seivers not long after Battle was fired as HC at UT (I was 8 years old at the time). I appreciate the time he took to talk to me and other kids there that day. He is a good man...much too good for college athletics. I hope he kicks cancer's arse.

Wish him a 100% and speedy recovery,

but this helps explain the terrible job he did in the baseball coaching search.

He's been dealing with this for 2 years but it's not considered life threatening.

He announced he will undergo a stem cell transplant as the next step in his treatment for multiple myeloma.

that's a shame. I'm old enough to remember when Tennessee hired him as head football coach.Wish him the best.

Oddly enough I noticed that Eugenia Battle, his ex-wife passed away a couple of weeks ago.

Lost my dad to this crap 14 years ago. They didn't find it until stage 4 though. Stage 1 can be beaten back.

Good luck Mr Battle.

Lost a good friend to the same thing. He fought the battle for years but ultimately lost.

He had the fortitude to start the first black QB in SEC History. The SEC wouldn't be the same without him.

I hate them man has cancer, an awful disease and I wish him nothing but but the best, but doesn't change the baseball coaching situation was handled extremely poorly---that actually makes some sense...he needed to get it over with quicker.
