What's something, whether it be a coach, recruiting violations, losing a huge game, etc., that really set your team back a few years? For State, I'd say the Sly Croom years. 3-2 defines that whole fiasco for me.

Others that come to mind for other schools is Petrino at Arkansas, Ole Miss with integration, and Derek Dooley at Tennessee (though it looks like they've finally recovered). What are some others?

The 2007 Big 12 championship game. That game is the reason we are still stuck in the little 8.

The Albert Means thing set off a chain reaction of shite that lasted till Saban arrived.

(Fran quitting cuz probation, the Mike Price fiasco, the Mike Shula fiasco, etc.)

Ironically enough we probably don't even land Saban if it never happened though.

For Mississippi state, I would have to say Starkville is their biggest setback.

The biggest setback for Arkansas was the loss to Texas in 1969.

That game changed the direction of a football program.. and to some extent a state.

Completely new coaching staff, Neyland turf, 4wheelers, alcohol, etc.

Edit: sorry thought you meant for this upcoming season, carry on

Nope. It was Mike Dubose. Fran was just a symptom that followed. We were fricked way before he left

This is very true. That clusterfrick led to a lot of pain. But it eventually led to a success that I thought I'd never see. I was born just after bear died, so throughout my youth, I prey much only had 92 (and was too young to appreciate it) and old stories from my uncles.

Mizzou only real answer is Babs and what that bitch did to our athletic program in the 80;s. The strike is a huge embarrassment but will not hold the program back for 20 years like Babs did.

* Early 2008 - QB Ryan Perrilloux getting kicked off the team.
Although we still won 41 games, an SEC title, a BCSNCG app, and 2 bowl games from 2008-2011, he may have made a difference.

* 5-star QB Zach Lee signing with the Dodgers over LSU...

Recent past ones:
* Going into 1998, LSU was preseason #5. However,
after firing both Coordinators at the end of '97, and losing Cecil Collins, Dinardo fell apart.
If Dinardo does not get fired after the '99 season, saban may still be up north somewhere and we may have gotten a more stand-up, honest, high-character loyal coach. Maybe even Miles.....

* After Charlie Mac 'retired' at the end of 1979, LSU hired Bo Rein, one of the top young CFB minds to lead the Tigers. Unfortunately, Rein and his pilot were killed after their plane went down on a recruiting trip in early 1980.
Had the pilot not gone too high and passed out, there would be:
no Jerry Stovall, no Bill Arnsparger, no Mike Archer, no Curly Hallman, no Gerry Dinardo, and no n. saban........
