No?

Someone should fix it on Wikipedia then.

National Championship Claims by School

Also might wanna fix this on your website:

AuburnTigers.Com NCAA Recognized Champions

The problem is that the NCAA doesn't recognize all of those, which is likely why the Auburn website uses a link to CSTV.com, instead of the NCAA.com link below.

nice one! i was always under the impression the current big 6 was 1992, thanks for clearing that up. i knew it wasn't from the 60s or 70s. that was the bear bryant era more or less. there was a big 1.

This post shows your ignorance. Anything you say now will not be taken seriously.

As the news article from 1989 proves, the idea of the "Big 6" goes back far earlier than the first SEC Championship Game in 1992.

One way to look at where programs ranked at specific points in history is to look at where they stand/stood in the all-time AP Poll rankings. Each #1 finish is worth 25 points, a 2nd place finish is worth 24 points, etc.

By the end of the 1980s, this is where the SEC stood in the all-time AP rankings (1936-1989)... national rank is in ( ):

1. Alabama- 662 (#4)
2. Tennessee- 454 (#9)
3. LSU- 375 (#14)
4. Auburn- 350 (#14)
5. Georgia- 311 (#16)
6. Ole Miss- 268 (#18)
7. Florida- 134 (#41)
8. Kentucky- 96 (#50)

So obviously 5 of the "Big 6" members were way out front, and the sleeping giant Florida came in after Ole Miss at #7.

An argument could be made that Ole Miss and not Florida should have been in the "Big 6" at the time, but the reason they were not considered to be a "Big 6" member was due to the fact that they had been so miserable of a program for more than 2 decades.

Here is how the AP Poll rankings looked for JUST the 1970s and 1980s:

1. Alabama- 302 (#4)
2. Auburn- 203 (#9)
3. Georgia- 165 (#14)
4. LSU- 138 (#19)
5. Tennessee- 125 (#20)
6. Florida- 75 (#29)
7. Kentucky- 35 (#41)
8. Mississippi St.- 22 (#50)
9. Ole Miss- 17 (#51)

So you see, Ole Miss had been irrelevant for two decades by the time the 1990s rolled around. In fact, Ole Miss had two Top 25 finishes during the 1970s and 1980s, and those were in 1970 and 1971. The Rebels went on an 18-year stretch of not Top 25 finishes.

From 1972-1989, Ole Miss compiled a record of just 91-105-4 for a winning percentage of 46.5%.

As the 1980s finished up and the SEC began talk of expansion, no one considered Ole Miss to be a power anymore.

Florida was coming on stronger and stronger with each passing year. By the time Steve Spurrier came on board in 1990, they were considered the #6 program in the conference, and by the time he left they were the premier program in the conference at the time.

Arkansas had a shot to be apart of the Top group upon joining the league. At the end of the 1980s, the Hogs were actually #13 nationally in the all-time AP Poll standings... one spot behind LSU, and one spot ahead of Auburn. And 3 spots ahead of Georgia.

But Arkansas adjusted poorly to the new league. It's been 23 years and still no SEC Titles for the Hogs.

Not only that, but they've been surpassed in the All-Time AP Poll standings by Auburn, Georgia, and Florida (1936-2014):

1. Alabama- 964 (#3)
2. Tennessee- 678 (#9)
3. LSU- 602 (#11)
4. Auburn- 554 (#12)
5. Georgia- 548 (#13)
6. Florida- 486 (#17)
7. Arkansas- 439 (#18)
8. Texas A&M- 365 (#20)
9. Ole Miss- 331 (#23)
10. Missouri- 221 (#30)

Georgia, Auburn, and Florida have all passed Arkansas in the all-time standings since the Hogs joined the conference. Those three programs have also combined to win 12 total SEC Championships (more than 50% of them all) to Arkansas' zero.

For this reason, Arkansas is not a "Big 6" member and with each passing year they are falling further and further behind.
