95 Nebraska hung 50 on Kansas State (#2 defense in the country that year).
Washington State scored 14 points in garbage time against them.

Big Copeland and Curry would eat UT's 39 QB for lunch

That 92 Bama D was the most talented ever assembled on a college team

I am a firm believer that the 90's players are tougher and meaner than today's players. I think that '95 Nebraska team tears any of Saban's teams a new a-hole

I spent most of my young adult life adoring that 92 Bama defense...but I honestly think 2011 Bama's was even better.

In answer to the question - 95 Huskers. Not close. If you want to compare fantasy football and future NFL players, you can look at Miami. But football is a team sport, not just a collection of talent. And 95 Nebraska is the greatest team of the modern era.

Yeah….I'm gonna have to admit that the '11 defense is better than the '92 defense. The '92 defense, as good as it was, finished #2 in the land in 2 of the big 4 defense categories. The '11 defense finished #1 in all of them. Not only that…but there were games where the '11 defense would go an entire half without allowing the opposing offense to gain a single first down.

That was a sick defense.

What do you think would be the score if the 1995Nebraska team played the 2001 Canes?

Boston College was able to hang with 01 Miami, so I'd go with 95 Nebraska.

The best two teams I've seen since then are the 2011 Alabama and LSU teams.

I think 2005 USC and Texas could probably have beaten both 2011 Alabama and LSU...

Sorry, but the 2011 offenses of Bama and LSU weren't exactly spectacular...

And neither was USC's and Texas' defense. Good, but not spectacular - just like Bama and LSU's offense.

It's hard to make these comparisons because high powered offenses stick out in people's mind and make a team look invincible. Over and over the bowl games demonstrate the opposite.

how's that? there have been plenty of times when good defenses have gotten blasted

I think Miami Hurricanes 2001 is a decent pick...

IMO, Nebraska '95 was known for the blow-out Florida win...truth is they were never challenged in the regular season, blowing through a weak Big 8 schedule

There are plenty of candidates not on here...

Washington '91 had an excellent defense.

Florida State, both '93 and '99 were loaded

Texas '05 was one of the best teams IMO recently...

Only Ohio State held them to under 30 points each game

actually texas had a top 5 defense that year. usc's defense was shitty(by their standards) however. 05 texas or usc would have beat 11 bama/lsu.

I think college football is better now than it's ever been. As human beings we continue to get bigger, stronger, and faster. The sport is becoming more advanced itself, on top of better development as amateurs. So if you ask me who is the best team ever, to me anyway, it has to be a team in the past decade.

Unfortunately you can only judge teams against the teams they played, so this argument is subjective at best.
