I'd have loved to see those 95 Huskers line up against the 2011 Alabama defense. Or even the 92 squad.
No place for women and children on that field.

The Big 8 was the best conference in the country in 1995. 3 of the 8 teams finished in the final AP Top 10 poll.
Which sounds a lot like the Big 12 just after Nebraska, Colorado, TAMU, and Mizzou left. Oklahoma sucked in 95 which allowed the crappy schedules of the other Big 8 schools to shine even tho they were crappy schedules. Look at the Nebraska schedule in the previous post and see how many teams they beat were around .500 or lower.
Fast forward to last season and the Big 12 was supposed to be the best conference in the land based on Sagarin and the polls but between all 10 teams they only played 1 Top 25 team OOC (the Oklahoma loss to Notre Dame) during the regular season. Hence their records were all enhanced but that did not mean any of them were actually that good.
Look at the conferences that year :
Northwestern went 8-0 in the B1G so they were not going to get poll love over Ohio State or Michigan.
Florida State lost to Virginia that year and went 7-1 in the ACC instead of 8-0.
Southern Cal lost to UCLA and tied Washington so did not go 8-0 in the PAC.
Texas went 7-0 in the SWC but lost to ND and tied the RRR against a 5-5-1 Oklahoma team.
You could say it was the perfect storm for all the usual suspects to have a down year at the same time. The Big 8 got attention that year just because everybody else normally at the top had losses. Again, not saying that Nebraska team was not good or great, just saying it was probably not the greatest of all time.
Gators still got spanked tho....

Going into the title game Florida was 12-0 and had basically crushed almost everyone that year as well.
That was an excellent Florida team that Nebraska demolished.

I am a firm believer that the 90's players are tougher and meaner than today's players. I think that '95 Nebraska team tears any of Saban's teams a new a-hole

Going by that then I might suggest some of the meanest teams in all of college football played between the 1950's and the 1970's. Kids going to school after WW II were not already considerably older than normal college kids but they were war veterans as well. Imagine if kids playing today had been in the serving in the Middle East for 4 years and then came back to play as freshmen and sophomores.

And the fact that the Gators - who were considered just as good as the Huskers going into the big game - got throttled by Nebraska to the tune of 62-24 should end all doubts as to whether or not Nebraska was just that good or they just got lucky with a soft schedule.
You can argue that OU was down and the college football in general sucked in '95, but that still doesn't change the fact that Nebraska was a dominant team. They proved that every time they went up against Top 10 competition.

I dunno, the 2011 Bama defense was, in Sabans words "a hateful bunch". But.... guess we'll never know.

To this day Jimmy Johnson says his 86 team was the best he ever coached...tons of pro talent (Testeverde,Irvin,Jerome Brown etc)
Said he had many a sleepless night over the loss to PSU
in the Fiesta Bowl.
Horrible coaching job by JJ in that game IMO.

God damn it if not for 1/9 then it would be 2011 LSU. 2011 was badass, too bad 2012 started out so bad.
1995 Nebraska is still tGOAT, 2001 Miami is still tOtherGOAT and 2011 LSU and 2011 Alabama are somewhere with the rest of the pile.

Late in the period, Florida went back ahead on a short 1-yard sneak from Wuerffel and led 10-6. As the Gators scored, the CBS announcer stated 'Nebraska better not get too far behind.'

Cheese n Grits - you are nuts. Not only was the 1995 team the most dominant but that program won 3 titles in 4 years and could have won 4 in 5 if they didn't lose to Miami by 2 points.
It's not that they just won but how they won. They flat out beat the shite out of top 10 teams, usually by 3 TDs or more. They'd go on the road and still dominate teams. That period from 93-97 was an incredible run.

Or did they just have an easy schedule? Remember they were in the Big 8 back then which was really just the Big 2 (Oklahoma and Nebraska) historically. T Boone had not showered cash on the folks in Stillwater yet and the rest of the conference was known for football prowess. Unlike Oklahoma the Huskers were not playing any of the Texas teams at the time.

95 Huskers in my lifetime and I'm 44 years old

It's 95 Nebraska and its not close. I don't know how anybody could mention 11 lsu with a straight face. 1/09 happened and it showed the ineptitude of lsu's passing game. Nebraska would have shut 11 lsu out and put up 42 pts of their own

I picked 1987 Miami and 1992 Alabama primarily because of their defenses. Nebraska was great in 1995 but I don't think they would have scored very much on Alabama (1992) or Miami (1987). Washington State put 21 on Nebraska.
