So is the FWAA (and the NFF for that matter).
You need to stop putting so much stock into that site. How many people have even heard of the NFF?

1995 Nebraska (almost 400 rushing YPG, top 10 offense, defense and ST) and 2001 Miami (12 eventual NFL pro bowlers).

No one has mentioned any of the pro teams Barry Switzer fielded at Oklahoma in the early '70s.
He might have paid more players than Bear Bryant and Nick Saban.

1995 Nebraska Highlights
That team was an absolute juggernaut, men among boys. Had Lawrence Phillips (#1) not gotten into trouble mid-way through the season, he most definitely would have won the Heisman Trophy. No big deal though. They just stuck a true freshman named Ahman Green into his spot and allowed him to rush for over 1,000 yards.

2010 Auburn Tigers. 14-0. There has never been a better record.

All this Auburn 2004 talk is a joke right? They aren't top 50 best teams of all time. They aren't even one of the best 5 SEC teams of the BCS era. Going undefeated doesn't make you a great team.
Tennessee went undefeated in 98 and nobody thinks they were all that great, they just happened to win all their games and claim the hardware, which is a great accomplishment but about 50% of the time a team manages to win the national title being undefeated, so it isn't exactly rare.
The best teams typically:
1. Go undefeated
2. DESTROY everybody they play, including other great teams
3. Have a TON of NFL talent on them

Two out of three ain't bad. I would gladly take it again.

The 95 Huskers could just tell the D. Option Right. Didnt matter gain of 8. We are running it again. Gain of 25 up the gut off center. Running it again - ok 65 yd fake pitch 6. They could not be stopped just running over you.
No team could manhandle people like that.
They beat #2 Fla. an SEC school 62-24. For MNC.
If I am not mistaken that Fla was a freaking juggernaut. You dont make utter mince meat of the SEC and get Bama/ND Punished unless you are the baddest team ever.
When their OL came out of the tunnel - you knew it was over.

Bama 1992. And honorable mention to Bama 2011 and 2012
Posted on 6/15/13 at 8:09 pm to Ted2010
Roughly 50% of the time in the modern poll era (1936+) the champion has been undefeated, so there have been about 35-40 undefeated national champions in the modern era.
All I'm saying is going undefeated by itself is not a good claim to "best team EVER" because it's not exactly a rare feat.

That team destroyed a very good Florida team that was likely the 2nd best team in the country. No contest. This team would have easily beaten the 2001 Miami team.

this is what the gators did.
Then lost 62-24.
62 to 24.
That Florida team rolled the SEC. LIke I said this wasnt a Bama ND fluke game or Hawaii Georgia.
This was 1 vs 2 and Huskers just ran the option 80% of the time.

95 Huskers. At the time they had better steroids than the rest.
Or did they just have an easy schedule? Remember they were in the Big 8 back then which was really just the Big 2 (Oklahoma and Nebraska) historically. T Boone had not showered cash on the folks in Stillwater yet and the rest of the conference was known for football prowess. Unlike Oklahoma the Huskers were not playing any of the Texas teams at the time.
Here is the schedule that year :
(4-8) Oklahoma State (Stillwater) W 64–21
(6-5-1) Michigan State (East Lansing) W 50–10 (Destroyed by LSU in bowl game)
(6-5) Arizona State Lincoln W 77–28
(?-?) Pacific : Big West school Lincoln W 49–7
(3-8) Washington State Lincoln W 35–21
(3-8) Missouri Lincoln W 57–0
(10-2) #8 Kansas State Lincoln W 49–25 - Lost to NE and CO that year but schedule unimpressive
(10-2)) #7 Colorado (Boulder) W 44–21 - Lost to NE and KS
(3-8) Iowa State Lincoln W 73–14
(10-2) #10 Kansas (Lawrence) W 41–3 - Lost to NE and KSU that year but schedule unimpressive
(5-5-1) Oklahoma Lincoln W 37–0 - Sooners were way down that year
(12-1) #2 Florida Tempe W 62–24
Were the Huskers really the greatest of all time or just the beneficiary of a easier schedule? 9 crappy games in the season and the other 3 looked better because the other powerhouse (Sooners) was down that year.

Clearly a good point - but the MNC game decides it in my mind. That is a monster score. On a Team that was a Monster in the SEC. and Im an SEC guy. I don't recall any injuries. They were brutal.
If the score was even 42-21 I can see your point. But 62-24. Lawd.

I agree they were good, but greatest of all time suggests not only a good bowl game but a tough regular season as well. Remember, as a Big 8 team they did not have to play the extra CCG that Florida did. Imagine if LSU had beaten Bama in the BCS game as well in 2011. Not only would they have won the MNC but the SECCCG and beaten (2) OOC ranked conference away from the confines of Tiger Stadium.
Not saying 2011 Tigers were better but they certainly played a much more difficult season to get to 13-1. Like the poster above praising the 1902 Michigan team their accomplishment looks much less impressive when you look at how weak that schedule was.
Yeah, Gators got spanked in that one.

They played and beat 4 teams that finished in the AP Top 10 by an average score of 49-18. '95 Nebraska was THAT good.
The Big 8 was the best conference in the country in 1995. 3 of the 8 teams finished in the final AP Top 10 poll.
