Because tRant has suddenly become a Big 8/12/11(?) hotbed, a history lesson.

To all of the Oklahomers on this board, let's go over the facts.

Oklahoma (and Nebraska for that matter) had some of the easiest routes to national titles before conference realignment in 1996. Conincidentially, Oklahoma had 6 of its 7 claimed national championships (probably more if you were taught math in Alabama) before this date. Nebraska won 4 of its 5 claimed titles before the merger, and shared its post merger title with Michigan. (The only other team to win a national title from the Big 8 was Colorado, in 1990, aided by the 5th down game and shared its title with Georgia Tech.)

Why is this significant? Before merging with the fabled and notorious SouthWest Conference (KJK5H), Oklahoma resided in the Big 8 conference. Included in this conference was Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Missouri, and Colorado.

Of the Big 8's 89 year existence, Nebraska and Oklahoma accounted for a claimed and/or shared 74 titles. The remaining teams combined would claim/share a Big 8 title 28 times.

This conference, save Oklahoma and Nebraska, was a hotbed of perennial losers.

The average standing for SEC schools is 45. Without Arkansas and South Carolina, it is 42.

Since the Big 12 conference merger in 1996, the SEC has claimed 10 compared to Big 12 with 3 (one being Texas, a non Big 8 school).

These numbers not only demonstrate that Nebraska and Oklahoma were the two dominant forces of the conference, but that the conference as a whole was weak, soft, and safer, thus therefore paving the way for Oklahoma and Nebraska to claim 10 national titles in the conference before the implementation of the BCS. Is it any wonder that after the conference realignment in 1996 that these teams have had only one title apiece? I think not.

The evidence is clear. No matter how hard you try, no matter how long you troll, the traditions and power of Oklahoma and the Big 8 has never and will never match up to the historical powerhouse that is the SEC.
