I read somewhere a good while back where someone associated with Miss State (can't remember if it was a former player or who) that was around the Bear during a practice and said something like "He was all business and ran that program like a business, but he had great humor. I stood next to him and after a bad play he would toss out a one liner and it was the funniest one-liner you ever heard."

That's golden stuff. Ever heard Jackie Sherrill's stories about the Bear? Some good stuff also.

South Central Bell is "dead" too. Sounds like you need to call your momma too.

I don't but let me see if I can find one. Many of them have been on local radio station interviews about his past. One that I remember was the following..

"So it's the 4th quarter and we weren't stopping the pass and I could see what they were doing. I walked up to coach Bryant and said 'coach I can intercept those passes' and Bryant said 'well get your arse in there' and I did pick off a pass."

I think he was playing linebacker on that play.

Did Jackie Sherrill have a coaches show at MSU? I'd love to see some of those, especially during the Wayne Madkin era. He's from my hometown

He did indeed moderated by the great Jack Cristil. I'm searching for anything relevant to all above.

I wasn't alive then but it must have been a hell of a ride to be a Bama fan during his era (not that Saban's is too shabby). Bear Bryant just seems like a badass.

Stomp here is a very good listen. How Jackie almost went to play for Oklahoma, his days with Bear Bryant etc. This is golden as I heard this before.

That is the main difference between him and Saban. They both are/were highly organized and greatly respected but the Bear had John Wayne charisma. He's the kind of guy you would follow to the gates of hell with.

Because he was too drunk to do a second take.

Saban isn't a drunk. I'd prefer him over Bear any day.
