BREAKING: Beginning in 2018, the @NCAACWS Baseball Tourney will seed 1-16, not 1-8. Huge news for the sport. Story??

So, are you saying the CWS will have 16 teams instead of 8?

Or that there will be 16 nationals seeds hosting?

I have to remind myself how it works ever spring.

I'm thinking that means they will seed the 16 regional hosts, 1-16, like softball does.

No. 1 Seed will be matched up with 16, not just the regional host. Basically what softball already does.

Agreed. I like this news.

I read they are still considering a reseed if there are upsets in the regional round. I hope they don't do that and they stick with the format they just instituted. If a national seed loses in their regional, they are simply replaced in their spot by the team that beat them.

I think it's a good move
I like the format of regionals and super regionals.

I like the finals as best 2/3 as well in Omaha

Only thing I might tweak is the process from beginning to end in Omaha, it would make for better championship series if both teams were back at full strength pitching wise. Maybe the first weekend of Omaha could be altered and the two champions from each bracket (single elimination) would meet starting on Fri through Sun for the best 2/3.

I'm guessing this is so that lower ranked teams who win their regional over one of the 8 super seeds don't get to host a SR. The host will go to #9, then #10, etc.

ETA: I could be dead wrong though.

Or increase roster size so teams could have more pitching but NCAA will never do that with the parity that is in the sport now which is good for the game

So basically there’s still 8 super regional hosts but instead of the regional winners being paired regionally ala LSU-Rice, FSU-Miami etc it will be like basketball seeding? Who wins here?

no, its to prevent A&M/TCU, UF/FSU from happening every year when those teams earned the right to play weaker opponents in the super regionals

well, that’s probably the most fair but makes travel distance irrelevant. At least now, you can kind of make “what if” plans. New format, you wouldn’t know where you are going until Monday morning after the Regionals. What am I missing?

Awesome. So no more Kentucky vs Louisville in a super or regional matchup because of location. About fricking time.

Pretty much. Louisville and Kentucky have been dealing with this the last few years as well. It's about time.

Seedings aren't as important in baseball.
Baseball is a game where whoever gets hot and is playing the best during tourney time usually has more success.
