yea, you ag's and florida are loaded this year.

due to the size of the state and the sport i'm surprised both of you don't compete for the title more often (not being negative).

LSU is rebuilding with 7 new position starters. very good pitching staff but ya gotta score runs too.

Baseball preseason polls have always been garbage. Just look at the inconsistency between the polls. Teams are all over the place.

Pretty sure we're ranked like 17th in a different one. They're fun to look at though.

Texas also has a lot of high level programs.

tu and Rice both have national titles in the last ~15 years. Those 2 plus A&M, TCU, TTU, BU and UH (I think) have all been to Omaha not that long ago.

I'll agree and disagree with you. A&M should be doing better, but based on the size of the state alone isn't the only (main) reason.

There is no universe where USC shouldn't be top-15 and making the postseason.

None.

I hope we aren't replacing it with Women's Baskeball.

Why can't we have two things?!

It usually takes them awhile throughout the season to normalize too.

I think it just speaks to the limited nature of college baseball coverage and the focus of the various entities that do cover it.

Baseball America is always more pro-prospect-focused. They're going to keep teams elevated because of potential, even if on field performance doesn't support it.

D1 Baseball is still so new, but I think they're more focused on how college players play in college, so they're going to look more at performance (last year, summer ball, etc) to inform them on their rankings.

I'll say this though, all Gamecock homerism aside, Vandy at 7? Too low imo.

Then you factor in how strong the Texas schools in the Southland are and perennial regional team Dallas Baptist. There is a lot of competition for players.

Not saying those southland schools are beating the big boys for kids, but (for example) if the best player at Sam Houston would have gone to A&M but for getting a bigger scholly at Sam Houston, there is an effect there.

I don't really disagree, but they're still being ranked based on two or three returning pitchers and a shite load of projection. They lost so much and even some of the arms coming back didn't throw a lot for them (for good reasons, but still). It's still generous to rank them as an Omaha contender based on their development track record and recruiting, since there is so little else to go right now.

Now you can take out Vandy and replace them with LSU and that paragraph applies almost to a tee.

What's really crazy is that I see neither South Carolina or North Carolina in that poll ... which has got to be the first time in many many years.

No Arkansas anywhere. By the first of June Van Horn will have this team playing for a spot to Omaha.
