This is why Bama is so good at what they do. Bill Battle steps down and the immediately hire Greg Byrne.

UF settled on Scott Stricklin due to Foley meddling and it seems he's following Foleys frugality in the football department.

Joe Alleva hires LSUs DL coach after a mediocre interim period and firing their best HC 3 months prior.

UT is about to hire the coach they fired almost a decade ago that has zero AD experience.

And the SEC wonders why none of us can catch Bama.

Saban is the main ingredient. Alabama had meddlers before him.

His attitude is infectious and it's instilled a culture of tediousness and excellence throughout the administration

Saban helps bring in a good AD. If you're an AD and Alabama calls and you know all you have to worry about is the sports that don't get a whole lot of attention and Saban will handle everything football related that's a pretty easy choice. The hardest thing he will have to do is pick who comes after Saban and that's just making a phone call to Dabo.

I wouldn't call Stricklin "settling". I think Stricklin is a really daym good AD.

Nobody knows what to expect if Fulmer does in fact get the AD job, but I can guarantee you that his emphasis on the football program will be huge. He knows what it takes to win big in this conference and will put everything back in place to do so at UT.

The hiring committee in the mid-late 2000s was on top of their damn game.

Looking at his resume, his major accomplishment is hiring Dan Mullen.

Well he made 3 hires, and 2 of them are Mullen and the guy who took MSU to the baseball championship game. Then take a look at his Arizona hires. That doesn't even mention keeping his basketball coach and his abilities as a fundraiser and infrastructure guy.

He's pretty good at his job.

The AD is an extremely overrated position. Even a moron like Jay Jacobs can do it, so how hard can it be? Gumps got lucky with Right place, Right time for Saban and act like they are the greatest thing ever. They will face reality soon enough TugJob.

ya'll gonna start bidding on players again and then turning in all the other bidders when (and only when) you don't win?

Nice try. The last century strongly suggest otherwise.

Does anyone want Jeff Long and Bert? I'll gladly trade for almost any combo save Tenner.

I'm sorry but using Baseball at MSU as an accomplishment doesn't hold much water. They have and have had the best program historically before he arrived. No excuse for MSU not to have a good golf program with their Golf Management Degree Program.

Same with Baseball at Arizona and any of their spring sports.

So at the very worst he'll continue to hire good replacement coaches for the sports we are traditionally above average or very good in and finish upgrading the few bad facilities we have left?

Works for me.

We didn't settle, he is a damn good AD and was one of the earliest targets. It took a while to get the deal done with, wasn't easy to get him to leave his Alma mater.

I'm not sure what frugality you are referring to with Stricklin. We are getting ready to spend $70 million on a new football operations building and he is already talking about major renovations to The Swamp. He's only been here a couple of months and is already planning major investments in football.
