Any of you Bama season ticket holders get selected for tickets?

I usually just tell them at the last minute what games I want to go to and where I want to sit and they fall all over themselves accommodating me. In this case I told them I would not be able to attend the game, and of course they bowed and scraped and accommodated me.

I wouldn't expect thew new stadium to be open in time...
They moved the opening date back to the day of the game. I have heard from various people that the development firm was internally saying that they are not expecting the place to be open on time for the game - this was a few months ago so maybe they have made up ground since that time.

Either way, i bet they are planning internally for a secondary location but again, this is second hand info so take it for what it is worth.

Unless they can pull off a miracle, I doubt it is open too. They are way behind schedule.

When do you think they'll make a decision?

"...the stadium has reached a major milestone: the retractable roof is successfully closing.

"The roof had been the major source of construction delays for the stadium. Steve Cannon, CEO of the Atlanta Falcons parent company AMB Group, said in April that steel work in the roof was 'taking longer than we anticipated.'

"With that obstacle cleared, the stadium has taken a major step to be ready for Alabama-FSU. The ability to close the roof should allow the game to be played even in the event of inclement weather.

"The demolition of the Georgia Dome has been delayed as an 'insurance policy' until the new stadium receives its certificate of occupancy, but the old stadium isn’t expected to be used for any more games going forward.

"'We do not expect to use the Georgia Dome whatsoever,” Cannon said."

I'm just going off of what I was told. The general rule on domes is that once they enclose everything, it is still about a year out from being finished. It was not fully enclosed in January. I want it to be open as that will be an amazing venue to start the season, but I was told last week they are still very behind schedule.

The Falcons are playing a preseason game on the 26th in the new stadium. From all accounts the new stadium will be ready and functional...

A retractable roof is a very different deal though. If you don't consider the retractable part a complete necessity to the stadium's functionality (which it really isn't, because you could just play with it open) then you can consider MBS' "roof" to be completely finished.

I'll be shocked if it isn't ready for Bama-FSU.

Right, their roof is different. I'm not saying it would be a year from now since they just got the retractable roof going.

Can't wait. Even though this will be my third trip to Atlanta in just a few months I don't want to miss out on the new stadium. I will still go if we have to play in the old one again but it will be disappointing.

That I can't really say. All I know is that as of a few weeks ago, some people on the development team has told someone I know very well who works with them, that they did not expect the stadium to be finished in time for the Alabama game. Everything else I said is just an assumption

And you're believing this because a news report said so? The news also reported the opening was supposed to be March 1st. Then June 1st. Then July 30th and then 2 months ago it was reported as being Aug 26.

I'm not saying it won't be ready but by all accounts I have no reason to believe that it won't be delayed again. I spoke with someone this week who is in ATL often and he said there was no way in hell it would be ready for Bama/Fl State. He also said it was rumored that seats which had been taken out of the Georgia Dome were being reinstalled. Maybe that's for insurance and maybe it's because they know the new stadium will not be ready. Either way that's not a promising sign.

On top of this cluster is that fact that those who have ordered tickets through the Universitys usually get those tickets about a week before the game. With the logistical nightmare it would create by having to create new tickets and get them to the buyers I'd imiagine if there is another delay we will probably find out by late July or early August at the latest.

I actually think Bama loses this game but will still beat Ole Miss, Miss St, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, LSU, and Auburn.

It's a possibility. They have a good team. If their offensive line is anything like last year, then this will be a blow out.
