THE GAME: The No. 2/2/2 University of Alabama football team squares off with No. 12/18/15 Florida in the 2015 SEC Championship Game on Dec. 5 inside the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. CT kickoff on CBS with Verne Lundquist doing play-by-play, Gary Danielson providing the color and Allie LaForce working the sidelines.

SERIES HISTORY: Alabama and Florida will meet for the 39th time this Saturday, Dec. 5. The Crimson Tide owns the all-time advantage, 25-14, but Florida has the upper hand in SEC Championship games, 4-3.

SEC CHAMPIONSHIP MEETINGS: Alabama and Florida will meet for the eighth time in SEC Championship Game history and the third time in the past 10 years. The Crimson Tide (10) and Gators (11) lead the league for most conference championship game appearances and have squared off the most of any opponent with the next closest matchup being LSU and Georgia, who have met three times in the history of the SEC title game.

ALABAMA HAS MOST COLLEGE FOOTBALL AWARDS FINALISTS: The Crimson Tide leads all FBS schools for the most nominations with three players up for four College football awards at this year’s ceremony in Atlanta. Derrick Henry for the Maxwell and Doak Walker Awards, Reggie Ragland for the Bednarik Award and A’Shawn Robinson for the Outland Trophy.

CHAMPIONSHIP SUCCESS: Alabama head coach Nick Saban has won his last six “championship” games with wins over Florida (2009), Georgia (2012) and Missouri (2014) in the SEC Championship and victories over Texas (2009), LSU (2011) and Notre Dame (2012) in National Championship contests.

TIDE REACHES 11 WINS FOR THE 19th TIME: With the win against Auburn to close out the 2015 regular season on Nov. 28, Alabama secured its 11th victory of the season, marking the 19th time in program history that the Tide has achieved the feat.

HARD TO RUN ON: Alabama’s run defense is once again near the top in the nation. Entering the SEC Championship Game, the Crimson Tide lead the nation for rushing defense, surrendering only 78.9 yards per game after facing some of the best ground games in the nation (Wisconsin, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee, LSU). The Tide is allowing 2.47 yards per carry.

YARDS AFTER CONTACT FOR HENRY: All aspects of running back Derrick Henry’s game are impressive, but his ability to gain yards after contact has been a key component of his stellar 2015 season. The junior has accounted for 69.0 percent of his rushing yards this season after first contact. He enters the SEC Championship with 1,791 yards rushing and 1,235 of those yards have come after contact.

NATIONALLY RANKED: Derrick Henry moved into the national lead for rushing yards this season with 1,797 following his career high 271-yard performance against Auburn in the 2015 Iron Bowl. He also leads the NCAA in touchdowns with 22.

HENRY THRIVES IN DOMES: Derrick Henry has been on a tear inside domed stadiums during his career. For his career, he has compiled 593 yards on 72 carries with eight touchdowns on the ground, while also adding five receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown.

Florida

UF will be playing in a dome for the first time since the 2012 Sugar Bowl. Overall, the Gators are 9-9 in domed stadiums, including a 5-3 mark in the Georgia Dome.

Despite UF’s loss to FSU last week in The Swamp, Florida is still the only FBS team that ranks 10th or better in the nation in rushing defense (seventh), pass defense (ninth), total defense (fifth), scoring defense (fifth), sacks per game (tied for fourth) and third down conversion percentage defense (10th).

Offensively, Florida has been led Kelvin Taylor’s rushing attack, as he has totals of 241 carries, 977 yards and 13 tds. Taylor’s 13 rushing touchdowns this year ties his father, Fred Taylor (1997), for the third-most by a Gator in a single campaign since 1996.

Antonio Callaway leads the team in receiving with 557 yards on 29 catches and ranks first in the nation in yards per reception (19.2) among true freshman wide receivers. Callaway is 58 yards away from tying Reidel Anthony (1994) for the highest receiving total by a true freshman in UF history.

This higher ranked team is 17-6 in SEC Championship Game history. However, Florida and Alabama have combined for four of the six wins in the underdog role.

Florida has held five different opponents under 75 rushing yards this year, which is the most times its done that in a season since 2006, when it had seven such games. Three of those performances this season have come in SEC games.

I always hope to watch a good game, but I just don't see it happening.
Florida has such a good defense, but they are not as good as Alabama's D. I just think Florida's defense will be exhausted by the third quarter.

IF McElwain keeps this close, that would be an amazing coaching feat.

I'm in agreement. I think this could be a bloodbath with their offense and our defense. Coach Mac is a really good offensive mind, but he just hasn't got the players.

I think this one will go a lot like the Mississippi State game. Early on, I think Alabama will struggle with a tough UF defense, but will get some big plays out of special teams and defensive turnovers.

Big match-up here I think will be how Ridley does vs Vernon Hargreaves

do they have a good d or does it look good bc of who they played? they did hold ol miss to low score...which is impressive, but they also allowed lsu 35, east carolina 24, fau was a close game too.

I think the defense is really good. I think they will stop Alabama fairly well at first, but Alabama will grind them down, I will be amazed if Alabama does not get some turnovers, and I expect a lot of three and outs from Fl.
