Where did the knock on Bama and holding no-calls start? Ever since I've lurked and been a member here, the amount of times people would complain about Bama holding and it not getting called has been astronomical. Is it a product of Saban's run offense? Or is it just Tom Ritter and friends?

Either way it's quite funny

It's a reflection of reality.

I think all teams hold and a lot of calls could go either way. Bama gets the most hate because right now they win the most, also because their dicks are stuck in their sisters.

REFEREE: What would you say as a referee is your toughest call?

RITTER: You know it’s managing the holding that we see play in play out, and trying to gauge the impact that that hold has on a play and whether or not it’s worthy of a foul.

But to think bama doesnt get a little leaway based on having the conference office in their back pocket, er back door, is a little naive

I am embracing it I think I remember it was most prevalent in Bama's first championship year when both our running backs were having great years. 2012 was another great year for holding. But I feel it definitely is a funny thing to hear from different people. Doesn't bother me in the least. I'm just wondering where its origin lies.

For example...the beat yourself thing originated in the 9-6 game straight from Hightower's mouth. That kind of stuff.

For any team that has ever consistently won a lot of games, there has been excuses as to why they won them.

I also think that winning is a self fulfilling prophecy. As much as refs try to be fair, well coached teams that tend to play more disciplined than others get a little more benefit of the doubt. It's basically referee stereotyping in the same way that a cop might assume a nerd with a calculator is not worth any extra attention, but a guy with a biker jacket is worth an extra look. Coaches like Saban and Coach K get this benefit of the doubt from time to time I will fully admit. It's not the conspiracy LSU fans make it out to be though.

The conference office was in Birmingham when the SEC office came down hard on Bama for the Albert Means scandal. It was in Birmingham when nothing seemed to go right for a decade. No one griped about it then, but now that Bama is suddenly winning because we have the best coach, it is a Birmingham conspiracy. LSU fans mention Birmingham in the same way Republicans talk about "Washington."

IIRC, there was a stretch of several games a few years back where there was not one holding penalty called against them. Not one.

Holding happens on every play, so for a team to go through multiple games without one called against them is quite odd.

Here after Bama went 2 or 3 years without getting called for holding.

Bama has lead the conference in least amount of penalties called since 07 or 08. When Saban was at LSU, LSU was middle of the pack regarding penalties. So you can't say Saban's coaching is the reason for the minimal amount of penalties

Well we won't have to worry about chop blocks at Auburn
with the Stark Industries new unis for the game.

The correct answer is that the line coach teaches technique that bumps up to the rule but doesn't cross the line.
As long as your arm is not extended and you don't take your man to the ground you will seldom get a holding call.

Holding is something that SEC the officiating Gods cannot get right.

Hubert Owen's crew calls a phantom holding call on Todd Gurley TD run vs USCe (SEC office later confirmed)and freaking doesn't touch a flag on some of the most blatent holding Ive ever seen in my life vs UF...some guy did a clip on youtube about...some of the worst officiating Ive ever witnessed.
