Most of the time when we play a close game at home we lose. It always seems like the offense is real nervous and jittery. I guess the home crowd creates this added pressure. 6-3 win over UT, OT win against Ole Piss, UT '09 are a few exceptions but big close games at home are usually disastrous for us. LSU (05, 07, 11) Auburn (10, 06, 04) our only win over LSU was the 9 pointer in 2009 and a 36 point bombing of Auburn. But every close game has been a loss. Why? Les and LSU win all those games and really auburn does too. Lots of people call auburn and LSU the two luckiest teams in the nation but I dont really buy that. So why doesn't happen?

Bama tightens up when Saban is irate. Miles is kinda goofy and the players are loose. Auburn...don't know.

Miles and company are way looser than Saban. I think that creates a stress and tension free environment. Our players play not to lose, LSU players seemingly play to win.

I do think while a great coach, saban has a tendency to let his defense try and win tough games for him. That can backfire, as seen last saturday.

Maybe Saban should tell his players to "Have a Great Day!"
More often

I hate to say it, but I have never felt safe when the game was close when saban was here. For whatever reason, the team makes the most silly mistakes. I remember xcarter kneeling the ball on the 1 yard line lol

He does to a good job of toatally dominating and demolishing opponents though.

He needs to give out more hugs IMO.

When the game is close or on the line, it seems that, that is when miles shines

Alabama players fear Saban and are afraid to make mistakes.

We're the same as LSU. I mean what isn't funny about a HC with no teeth, a black guy jumping around with a towel (notracists), and a caffeine-wired OC going thru ~27 packs of gum a quarter? Our players generally seem pretty jovial on the sidelines

I always felt like Saban got too conservative in close games, even more as the game proceded. I think he doesn't trust his players, QBs in particular, to not make a game losing mistake.

Maybe the players notice that, and lose some of their confidence. Sure looked that way last weekend.

A truly novel concept--the "home field disadvantage."

Seriously, I don't think it's the pressure from the crowd. Might it be the pressure from the coah? Hard to say, but if I'm ranking suspects (other than random bad luck and playing slightly superior opponents) I'm going to put coaching pressure over home crowd pressure.

The ones that stand out that we won were Tennessee in 09 and Arkansas in 07. But we really suck in overtime. Everyone in the stadium knew Bama would lose in overtime.

we played brilliantly in OT in Death Valley in 2008. I bet we would have lost that game in Bryant-Denny.
