Both teams have stumbled pretty badly out of the gate with Bama losing to Valpo and Dayton while Texas has lost 3 straight including to UT-Arlington. Both teams appear to possess talent but are still raw. Bama improved a lot in their last game and a win at Texas would go a long way toward establishing a NCAA resume.

Looking forward to Avery's second season. But...

Alabama has a SEC title game to worry over. Then hopefully two playoff games.

I'm sure more fans will follow more closely as football ends.

ive still never understood this logic. because fans taking interest in two sports at the same has some effect on how the teams themselves play

This whole year is just gonna be a tease until we can get those two 5*s in next year.

Bama needs this one badly. Team chemistry has been off early, but seemed to finally start coming together in the last game.

Beating Texas (even if they're sucking right now) would be a major boost.

I didn't realize the basketball players also played football.

Of course it doesn't. But not a lot of fans are following as close right now.

KenPom has it as pretty even as well (Alabama #71, Texas #70). Perhaps its Gottfried Syndrome, but I never expect to win on the road against anybody, especially not a team that is semi-functional.

I'd be surprised to see us win. However, if we have any NCAA hopes, it's a huge game. If we can win 2/3 from Texas, Oregon, Clemson and win the rest of our OOC games like we should then we will have survived the OOC grind. However, that's going to be pretty difficult.

Than what did you mean? That fans should only focus on one sport at a time?

No. The obvious. Most fans will focus on one sport at a time.

I think Bama can win this one. The team has struggled at times, but I think they're starting to find an identity. It seems like like they're learning their roles and getting more comfortable. We had so many new guys this year who are contributors, it was almost like starting over in year one for Avery.

Also, I'm not sure why it's fashionable to not care about basketball until after football. I love keeping up with both.

Exactly. It's not like it's hard to do so.

I thought Shaka Smart would turn Texas around immediately. Maybe there's a "Texas Effect" that causes good coaches at other schools to become shite when they arrive in Austin.
