That will be the matchup in Atlanta this December.

TN will go 10-2 with losses to Alabama and a close loss to LSU.

Florida and Georgia will each go 6-2 in the SEC as well and TN will win the tiebreaker.

Stidham is going to wreck the SEC West in Gus' offensive scheme and Saban will inch closer to retirement.

Auburn will go 11-1 and unfortunately they will beat TN in Atlanta to win the SEC this fall.

Butch will go on to sign a top 3 class in the country this fall and the Vols will have officially turned the corner and all this Butch hot seat talk will seem like a distant memory in a few months!

Go Vols!

Butch will get over that hump as well this fall. TN sweeps the East with the toughest game being the opening road test in the Swamp.

That is the one game that could derail this prediction but I think TN pulls out a close one due to our OL and running game we will have.

Completely disagree. Georgia will beat y'all, Florida should beat y'all, Kentucky is likely to beat y'all, we will beat y'all and Vandy may beat y'all yet again.

Only sure win y'all can pencil in is Mizzou.

I was thinking that Tennessee loses the opener to Georgia Tech, resulting in a train-wreck season forcing VOLS to fire Butch.

TN is head and shoulders better then KY, SC and Vandy when healthy. We are right there with Georgia as the most talented team in the East with Florida in the conversation as well.

TN will not have the expectations, pressure, inner turmoil and other issues that plagued the team last year to hinder our growth this season.

TN will also be much healthier this season due to the improved S&C program.

TN will also not have the gauntlent to start the season like they did last year where they played 4 straight division winners then @UGA, @A&M and Bama in their first 7 games of the season. This resulted in a mentally and physically destroyed team under the weight of the expectations by time they got to the creampuff portion of the schedule where the Cocks and Commodore's resided last year.

This squad is being compared internally to the chemistry the 1998 team had after all the start of the 97 team left and everyone wrote them off.

This team won't reach those heights but they will be similarly overachieving.

GO Vols!

Don't say I didn't tell you all so!

Everyone wants UK to beat us so bad this year. They fail to realize that they haven't come close to beating us under Butch, and besides that only 1 time in 30 years. They also fail to realize that UK sucks at Football.

How would anybody internally have enough day to day knowledge of 1997-98 and 2016-17 to be able to make that comparison?

That's like current Alabama staffers comparing this off-season to the 1992 off-season. They don't know shite about the daily workings of that summer 25 years ago.

The only people who prop up UK to win the east are trolls who want the east to suck.

It's possible, but not likely. AU should be favored in all except 2-3 games.

simply not going to happen. Tenn will be dogs to Bama, UGA, UF, LSU, and maybe one more.

Correct. The fact that OP even suggested it is an obvious troll. UT loses 5 this year

I like where your head's at. Shades of 2004, except this time there is a playoff for Auburn to be in after the SECC.

but...but...UK is a contender for the east BECAUSE the east sucks. do you realize that if UGA played in the west, they would be a perennial bottom half finisher, as Ole Miss is...and 45-14 is proof.

Fulmer would know and we did just hire him. Don't know who is doing the comparing though there are a lot of 97 and 98 guys around the program these days. Those guys are mostly retired from the NFL now and keep close ties.

That said, I wouldn't base a prediction on any similarities whether they're true or not.
