Pretty simple. We couldn't stop them on third down. We let them convert on 14 or 18 third downs. That was the most telling stat for that game.

don't really know what to expect. If we get decent QB play, we should have a good shot at winning. We will get pressure on Boyd, we just have ot make sure we don't let him escape and make too many big runs.

The Chizik/Theodore Roof defense was the culprit. Now that Theodore is coordinating in the Valley of Discontent (formally Happy Valley), we will see who the culprit was of the terrible, very un-Auburn like defense on the plains since the departure of Tubbs.

And when our defense is vastly improved, BVG will get all the credit from you ...correct?

Our front 4 should be pretty solid and help make up for the lack of talent at LB and lack of experience in the secondary. I expect it will be a little more like the 2010 defense that wasn't great, but came up big at the right times due to the defensive line.

Who cares who gets the credit? If the defense is vastly improved, an Auburn fan shouldn't care who is responsible.

To be honest, I don't know who will get the credit? What defense is being run? I can't say I know the intricacies between what Chizik ran as a DC, what Roof runs, and what BVG runs.

If AU comes out next season and their linebackers are lights out, wouldn't one conclude that a LB guru like BVG would be responsible?

It would be a miracle.

With a feat that outstanding, there would be plenty of credit to go around. I would most likely lay most of it at the feet of BVG.

Yeah, I think parkjas took my comment the wrong way. I'm with you, if there is improvement, I wouldn't care who did it players/coaches/strength and conditioning, I'd just be happy it improved. My comment was more about, now that Ted is gone, we will get some insight as to what he was doing. I know he LOVED to blitz. I also seem to think BVG is pretty crafty with the blitz. It should be interesting.

I think one of the big problems was that Chiz and Roof were never on the same page philosophically. I suspect both will be better without the other.

What does that have to do with anything? He is a fan of a college program just like you and I. I assure you being a fan of Auburn doesn't give you special flaming privileges other fans are excluded from.

No i got your comment.

You blame AU god awful defense on boththe HC and the DC. I was just seeing if that defense is good this year, will the HC and the DC get the credit.

I blame our crap defense on the DC. I blame the crap hire of the DC on the HC.

If our defense is good next year, I will credit the DC and the HC will get the hire credit.

Fair enough. I just find it weird that I can have a discussion about Auburn with WDE just fine, but you always seem to respond to my comments like I am setting an elaborate trap. If AU is better on defense I think there will be plenty of credit to go around. It is a bit suspicious that a guy who knows defenses can't field one worth a shite at a place where great defenses have been the norm. That makes me think it must be Roof related. We shall see if Chiz and BVG mesh better. If that doesn't work, Chiz should take it over himself.

ene Chizik just won a National Championship in 2010. I wouldn't say hes a bad coach.

Any coach that proclaims to be a defensive guru and then trots out the crap Auburn put out there last season is imo not a good coach. Nobody is saying they had to be world beaters, but players didn't know assignments, how to get off blocks, how to tackle, etc. That goes back to coaching.

Its not suspicious. I can show you.

He hired TR to run the defense and TR failed. He hired Coach Rocker to run the DL and we led the SEC in rush defense. If his caoching hires fail, he is 100% accountable...to me.

He is a CEO coach, like Brown and Tubbs taught him to be.

If it doesnt work, I will start to question him as AUs coach.

To his credit, our defense looked a helluva lot better in the bowl game.

They actually knew how to tackle.

He has had a pretty long career of success. Certainly he has to have some accountability for the defensive product last year, but to label him a bad coach because of it is premature at best and flaming due to your loyalties at worst.

I will defend Chiz for the job he has done so far given the circumstances he has inherited. However, I am still not sure if he is a great coach, good coach, or just ok. The way he handled 2010 was magnificent and he deserves more credit than he gets for that. I probably will withhold my final judgment until the end of the 2013 season, although this season should give us some good clues.
