My Auburn grad buddy called me to catch up last night. We had a good conversation about family and future plans and stuff. Eventually the conversation turned to football, as it usually does - and he expressed to me his frustrations with the rotating door of defensive coordinators. He told me this trivia fact about the last time Auburn had a defensive coordinator that had been there for at least 4 years was 1995, and I didn't believe him at first. Sure enough, he was right. Crazy.

2015 Will Muschamp
2013-2014 Ellis Johnson
2012 Brian Van Gorder
2009-2011 Ted Roof
2008 Paul Rhodes
2006-2007 Will Muschamp
2005 David Gibbs
2002-2004 Gene Chizik
1999-2001 John Lovett
1996-1998 Bill Oliver
1986-1995 Wayne Hall

Those Auburn defenses in the late-80s were no joke. That '88 defense was especially nasty.

I really don't think this is especially unusual.

I think 4 years is a very long time for a major university coordinator.

I'll agree that we need some stability in that position, but the schools with long time stability at an OC or DC position are the rare exception rather than the rule. That being said, it'd be nice for a guy to stick around 3 years or so.

thanks to the SECr AU beat writer for that breaking news.

Hey, next season, you think you can post great places to eat, park etc...

That would be great for visiting fans.

if your defensive coordinator does a good enough job he'll get a HC offer somewhere. If he sucks he'll get fired, in order to be a 4 year coordinator you need to be good, but not too good. I forgot about ellis johnson. That guy did good at SC, i dont know what happened with him there.

Are you Aubsessed or what? We must really be in your head. That's all you do is post about us. I thought your team was in the playoff, still thinking about us, unreal.

Add South Carolina and Tennessee.

ETA: Not sure about that time frame. Was thinking Johnson at USCe and Chavis at UT.

Not that surprising when you consider their HC turnover

Updated my list. Seems that it is more common than not to have a four year DC sometime in the past decade.
