I legit think JJ could be a better QB than Cam. He's so much more polished as a passer than Cam was.
This thread wasn't a troll. I have complete faith in JJ. My only concern is whether or not he'll be returning for his Senior season.

Still, JJ will produce huge numbers, no doubt.

Sean "The Next Drew Brees" White
In Gus Malzahn's own words the most accurate QB he's ever worked with.
Either way Chris Todd isn't 1/5 the QB Jeremy Johnson is, so using that modest math JJ should have 30 TD to 1 INT in SEC play.
Todd also wasn't 1/1000000 the athlete JJ is. He barely had enough mobility to drop back.
Todd got benched by Kodi Burns in 2008 and then Malzahn came in 2009 and Todd set AU passing records. That should tell you something about Malzahn. Todd was God awful.

I think this is the main reason the offense will be different but just as effective. Nick Marshall was tremendous at the read option but not an efficient passer on the short and intermediate routes. He was so good running though that it didn't matter.
Johnson's accuracy will force teams to respect the pass more and keep the running lanes open.

He is the most excited I have been about a recruit in a long long long time. Kid showed me everything you could possibly want in a QB. What little he has done in college has only bolstered my fapness.
I think JJ will be able to keep D's much more honest. I really think Gus will be able to open more of his playbook than he could with Nick also.
Is Stidham JJ 2.0?

Stedham is a good QB. Auburn is gonna have a good team and offense this year.

Stidham hasn't been hyped nearly as much as Jeremy Johnson or even Keil Frazier IMO. And even if Stidham has been hyped too much, at least it was based on his actual play while at Baylor as a true freshman. JJ and Frazier were hyped so much because Malzahn used to be viewed as a can't miss offensive and QB guru. The assumption was that you could take any mobile QB with a decent arm and plug him in to Malzahn's system and he would be a Heisman contender. We now know that is not true and in fact Malzahn's weakest skill might be actually developing a QB over a 4 year stretch of time.
As a rival fan I think Stidham will be pretty good, because he is actually a good QB and not just a guy who reminds people of Cam Newton.

Stidham will be very good in that offense.

I didn't know the Press were Auburn Fans. I need to research the bylines of those reporters.

I realize we, as Auburn fans, hyped up both Jeremy Johnson and Kiehl Frazier, but the media was the real hype machine behind Jeremy Johnson. They put him into the Heisman conversation over, and over again. A lot of Auburn fans were giving up on Koehler Frazier after his freshman year when it was obvious he couldn't throw a forward pass and looked like a deer in the headlights.

You guys hyped up Frazier so much because you "stole" an Arkansas boy the University of Arkansas didn't even want

Yeah, well, Auburn "stole" a coach Arkansas "didn't want" and look how that turned out.
Posted on 7/2/17 at 11:17 am to TTsTowel
Yep, he had a good first year
I do see a pattern here though, we have been doing it wrong
We really want that QB, don't offer a scholarship
We really want that coach, don't even bother to interview him

Agreed....mostly because of Malzahn's QB reputation following Cam Newton and Nick Marshall. But Gus hyped him up as well and seemed to relish the attention JJ was getting.

To be fair, you guys threw Jeremy Johnson under the bus after 2 games. But hell I would have too. He wasn't even a Sun Belt caliber QB. I just wonder if Malzahn actually knew this all along in the offseason but felt like he had to start him because of all the hype? How does someone that bad ever take the reigns of a top 10 ranked SEC team?

The inflated self worth of Auburn is hilarious.
Easily on bottom of the totem pole of the Big 6.

Yeah. Two games in and it was pretty clear the kid was in trouble.
It was a shame. I always hate to see any young man fail under that kind of pressure. I think we often forget these are young men who are trying their best. .. but damn it was painful to watch.
I am positive about Stidham, but that is more about hoping he is more durable than White and can make decisions better than JJ.
That does not mean I think he will be an amazing qb, but I think he could be good, especially if the running game remains strong.

Not really. In the last 30 years they have done as much or more than anyone in the SEC not named Alabama or Florida. They have been to two national title games in the last 7 years. They have won the most recent natty of anyone in the SEC besides Alabama.

I think a lot of that is driven by the in state competition. I am still of the opinion it is best for AL and AU when both schools are competitive.
This season should hopefully be pretty exciting. I hope one of the SEC East schools emerges as a real challenge to the SEC West champion. It seems like this might be one of the better years for SEC quarterback play.
I think most fanbases could find reasons for positive delusions this year-- except maybe Ole Miss in the West.

An auburn fan I know think they will win a natl championship every year.
