I like it when posters know correct spelling.
AU used to have nickname "the Plainsmen" in all seriousness and I remember in the early 1960s that it was the name of choice. Even into the early 1970s the name was used quite often but then faded...I for one would love the name restored to its rightful glory.
We have enough dogs, cats, etc etc I hereby start a proclamation that the AU football team will hereby be called the "Auburn Plainsmen"

LSU had that tiger logo first and we are named after the Louisiana Tigers that fought at Gettysburg.

And they ALL ripped off Occidental College. LINK
Then LSU, then Auburn (around the same time as LSU), then Missouri (which only used them on cheerleading uniforms for a short period of time)
So no, Missouri ripped everyone off...

Missouri adopted the Tiger name in 1890, LSU in 1896... but still yall stole that tiger logo from everyone else.

Our Tigers from the civil war were first.
Our Tigers in the university form were first.
Only logical conclusion is that LSU and Auburn blatantly ripped off its wiser cousin to the north.

No.
quote:
The nickname was first coined in 1896 after an undefeated football season. The nickname is a throwback to the Civil War fame of a New Orleans infantry company, the "Tiger Rifles". They fought so fiercely in General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia that they, and eventually all other Louisiana troops, became known as "Louisiana Tigers".

Where do you think Missouri Tigers name came from?
quote:
"The nickname ‘Tigers’ given to Mizzou's athletic teams, traces its origin to the Civil War period. Small towns, defending themselves against attacks by plundering guerilla bands, formed ‘home guards’ to provide protection. Columbia's home guard was called ‘The Missouri Tigers.’
That shite was happening in Missouri before the Civil War even started.
Missouri was first.

My feeling is that football wise Mizzou hasn't done anything to deserve to claim a damn thing.
