And it helps the state because all the tax dollars the fans will spend stays right here at home.
They won't be spending that much money for a game in Birmingham.
Even when UAB was limping along playing in front of an almost empty stadium in the middle of a ghetto, the average UAB game brought over a million dollars into Birmingham. ( LINK)
Now if they had an Auburn or Alabama in town, the stadium, especially one on campus, will be filled and the amount of money brought into Birmingham would be huge.

Have y'all been living under a rock or in a cave? The announcement that UAB would again field a football team in 2017 was made weeks ago.

We have a 100k+ seat stadium 45 minutes down the road. UA will never play in Legion, ever again.

I would love to play UAB in Jordan Hare Stadium as many times as they wish.
What I do NOT want is to infuse ONE AUBURN dollar into the city of Birmingham which did nothing but crap on Auburn for over half a century during the Iron Bowl.
Scroo Birmingham.

2017 is a long way in the future; UAB football's return is contingent on receipt of the money pledged by their boosters. To date, very few checks have actually been written because - the boosters claim - they want to ensure the football team is actually fielded. The administration isn't going to proceed without having a substantial portion of the pledged money in-hand.

In theory, football's return could be slowed down if the funds don't arrive at an appropriate time. The school has no interest in breaking ground on facilities before the majority of the money is received, according to a source, which isn't unusual when it comes to major construction projects. Ingram has said 2017 is the ideal year for UAB football to return, but the school has yet to say definitively that's the plan.

Plus i'm sure a few of us actually care about Birmingham.
Now if only the politicians that run B-ham cared...

What you guys are forgetting is the lost revenue from losing a home game for either Alabama or Auburn. Ticket sales alone for either are 4-6 million or more. Add in ad revenue, concessions, etc. and that's a huge loss financially for either program.

How did Birmingham "crap on Auburn for over half a century"?

You're going to have away games every season. This would count as one of them.

Try going to an Iron Bowl played at Legion Field during those days.
Majority of seats went to bammer fans, bammer ticket takers, bammer concession workers, bammer workers letting more bammer fans in free from underneath the west stands, etc.
It was a bammer home game and the city of birmingham did everything to keep the glorious game that way. Auburn owes nothing to the city of birmingham other than the middle finger.

Away SEC games. Not away OOC games.
Bama plays one OOC game away from BDS this year. We are being PAID millions to play in that game. So is UAB going to pay millions to get us there?

You have 4 guaranteed conference games away each year. All the non conference are up to the university to decide. That's why they pay these cupcake teams 1 mil for a home game. The gate, ads, concessions, etc make it very profitable. I doubt either Alabama or Auburn would want to freely lose that much money for UAB's sake.
