IIRC Gus said before Sean was kicked off that if anything long-term happened to Stidham then Willis would step in, so it's really more of a blow to our depth than anything.

Which is why Gustav's decision not to play him against GA Southern and Mercer was so infuriating.

I bet Willis plays now. Their plan was to have him redshirt unless something really bad happened to Stidham, but now he is the legit #2

Out entire offensive strategy was not changed because we could not get a full back. I get Jay was a key piece but Pettway could have been that guy. Chandler Cox also had potential at that position.
The QB position and left tackle were the key pieces.

Whats next? Touchdown passes?

Just like Bama, they would have to play a True Freshman. Bad option for both teams.

Malik was the backup against Clemson if Stidham went down. Sean was always the #2 until his latest frick up. See last sentence.

Yea, the idea was to red shirt him this year if possible.....
Probably not possible now. We still have Devan Adams to do clean up duty but we could not count on him to be competitive

No I am a Auburn Grad class of 97, I have had enough of Gus, and see through all his BS. I am also further along in the stages of grief than most AU fans. I hit the acceptance phase last year vs UGA. A shitload of you guys are still in denial. I will give you an quick example, Steele has been working with our D for a year and an half. It looks like a well oiled machine. Gus has been running his O, one he wrote a gotdamn book about for almost 5 years and it has sucked for the last 3 years.

Yeah I was just thinking just about anybody would be screwed if they lose their starting qb. Some backups are better than others. I get that, but everybody takes some kind of hit if they lose their starter.

I don't think I'm in denial. I've watched a qb who was out of competitive football for 2 years struggle at times to get his bearings. I watched a team uncharacteristically fumble the ball 4 times last week, which is not Gus's fault.
Does it need to get cleaned up? Absolutely.
Is Stidham a work in progress? Yes.
Could this season come off the rails? For sure.
Are all of our hopes still in reach? They are.
Did I see what an overreaction like LSU can lead to? You better fricking believe it!

I see no reason why we can't design our offense around Willis but I have been under the impression that Gatewood will be special for while now. He is Taylor-Made for Gus's offense, not Chips. Which again, it begs the question, if we have quarterbacks that are a better fit for Gus's offense, who calls the offense? I mean, I wouldn't want NM throwing RPOs in the middle of the field. The RPO "pop passes" were NM's level, such as the one where Sammie scored the tying TD against Bama.

Nick Marshall 2.0 Cam AKA Malik "What you talking about?" Willis

He had a great senior year at Roswell. Led them to the state title game against a loaded Grayson team.
Hope he does well at Auburn.
