Honest post and not meant to be a flame. What are your thoughts on Chavis in his second year and Texas A&M? The defense has certainly improved. Where do you see him/the defense in the future?

One day they would like to get a top 75 defense

Too many injuries... We do not have the depth yet.

Certainly this is a low point but I still love the guy. If he can't fix the D I don't know who can.

Some of the fan base is starting to turn on him, they really expected more improvement than where we are at this far into the second season. This I can tell you, he is a large improvement over Mark Snyder, our previous defensive coordinator, however he was so bad almost anybody would have been an upgrade. So the question is, how much of one is he and is he worth what we are paying him (big bucks)?
I still think he can get the job done, we have had the worst luck at linebacker (career ending injuries, grade non qualifiers, kicked off team for arrests) so he needs to get some playmakers in there. D tackles need some work too, we are fairly solid at DE behind garret and hall, both who will be leaving after this year.
In short the jury is still out.

until we get quality LBs we will struggle at times. We also have to have better depth.

As what was evident when he was UT & LSU, when he has great talent & good depth, his type of defense works. Some of his teams at both places were great defensive teams. But when he lacks either, he is what UT & LSU fans came to dislike, a DC whose teams give up huge plays & lots of yardage. He wore out his welcome at both places and now there is apparently rumblings in aggie land. It is not a coincidence when it happens at 3 different schools. Add in that he refuses to leave campus to recruit and thus, is an ineffectual recruiter...aggies, you have what UT & LSU ended up with.
