Could? 3 sports over how many years and staffs? Academic fraud, improper benefits. There is. Whether they get slapped with it is another.

I wouldn't be surprised if the name CJ Hampton appeared somewhere in the NOA.

what do you guys honestly think is going to come of this?

With the violations that are being speculated upon, if they actually did happen, and they are in the NOA (which none of us know for sure at this point) then I think it's pretty clear that it is lack of institutional control.

However, the NCAA has been proven to be more than inept in the past so it would not surprise me if the punishments were anti-climactic.

One of the commenters on the linked article said that there was a rumor of audio tape directly linking Freeze to the violations.

Just a rumor posted on the intertubes, but I wondered what the whole rumor was.

Ole Miss fans, having been where you're at right now, I offer the following:

Don't let the haters get to you. You'll be tempted to give up hope, but don't. Don't let their negativity detract from your Heisman/SEC/National Title wins.

I think Ole Miss is lucky that UNC is in front of them in line at the principle's office and lucky UNC has been committing academic fraud on a level never seen before because OM will likely get less than whatever UNC gets as far as punishment.

The NCAA is not going to burn down UNC because they are a blue-blood CBB powerhouse with too much clout.

Therefore, OM will likely not be burned down either, under any scenario.

UNC is a good school, though, and isn't in the news every other year for racism-related stuff.

I think there are some folks who would like to take down Ole Miss.

Did Rev. Freeze follow the "Thou Shalt Not Lie" policy with the recruits he just bought?

Don't be so sure about Ole Miss not being burnt down.

The majority of the country has a very powerful desire to see SEC football taken down a notch.

They can't do it on the field so they will use the NCAA.

Come on now. UNC has committed academic fraud on a MASSIVE scale while marketing themselves as being one of the best academic institutions in the nation.

They are going to receive pretty significant punishment (some somewhat ineffectual like forfeiting dozens of games in multiple sports - maybe even a national title in basketball).

UNC will lose a bunch of schollies and I could see Roy getting suspended or even canned.

That said, they are not getting a death penalty and most of the punishment will be retroactive with the exception of scholarship limits and whatever happens with Roy.

Freeze got his wrist slapped by the NCAA for improper contact w recruits when he left the high school and went to OM. I read this on Michael Oher's wiki page. I had no idea he started his career at UM under of cloud of suspicion. Do a little research on him and Oher. It's really stinky. I don't know how he was able to morph himself I to this saintly holy-roller persona.
This was not his head coaching gig, but when he was brought in as a player recruitment coordinator (I think that's the title). The guy proved from the get-go that he was willing to cheat; no telling what kind of dirt they have on him from way back.

I think this is a fair question.

Maybe if the people he baptized at the local baptist church ask him it will really hit home, and he will be repentant and forgiven.

Was Freeze recruiting coordinator under Ed Orgeron? Ed brought in some nice talent, he just couldn't coach worth a crap. Nutt actually benefitted greatly from O's roster.

In 2005, the University of Mississippi hired Freeze as an assistant athletic director for football external affairs. The following season, he became the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator, positions he held through 2007.[3] After that season, he replaced head coach Ed Orgeron on an interim basis before the hiring of Houston Nutt.[3] Freeze interviewed for the offensive coordinator position with Nutt,[7] a position that eventually went to Kent Austin.
