Saw the game off and on last night on ESPN Classic. Arkansas jumps out ahead 27-0. Auburn begins second half comeback and scores in last minute to make score 26-30. Here is my question:

Why did Auburn go for a 2 point conversion at that point rather than kicking extra point and making it a 3 point game needing a FG to tie? Now, remember 1995 is the last year before overtime was put into place. Any ideas or thoughts on Terry Bowden's decision at the time?

BTW, Auburn did convert and made the score 30-28, recovered onside kick and had a long FG attempt at the end of the game fall short.

I'm going to guess he was still drunk from the night before at Denaros.

He looked a little ragged but appeared to have his senses together.

Both teams were 5-2 at the time, Arkansas had already beaten Alabama, so unsure if that was part of his thinking? I know at 30-28 a FG gets you a win, but at 30-26 chances are much slimmer to pull off a victory.

Maybe he had confidence in his team converting the 2 point conversion and was playing to win not tie.

MTurbo - it is really the only answer I could come up with also.

Because Auburn has balls. And went for the win.

that and it was still within the time frame where a lot of fans had PTSD from the whole tie Dye thing. I think the collective conscience of all things AU felt like going for it was the right call at that moment in time.
