I know LSU lost to Troy but it's not the off-season yet.

This really isn't a debate.

Arkansas went 11-0 with a victory over Texas.

Alabama went 10-1 with a loss to Texas.

The situation was so terrible that the AP changed their voting until AFTER the bowl games.

The AP and UPI trophies are in the Bryant Museum in Tuscaloosa...

I always love how other fans ridicule Bama for claiming non-AP OR UPI championships but then Arkansas fans say Bama has no claim in 1964.

I guess if it's all they've got...

And then the exact opposite happened. Arkansas went unbeaten, but lost in the bowl, allowing 1 loss Alabama to win it in 1965.

I remember thinking at the time that Arkansas had a better year. Been a while though.

Major poll winners aren't "real" champions?

And it gave Alabama the title again in 1965. Under the '64 rules, Arkansas would have likely been voted champ.

I don't know, man. Maybe if the voting authorities of the time had given some sort of keepsake or memento to the team that they chose as the champion for that year, and that team still maintained that keepsake or memento in some sort of museum or historical display for anyone to go and see, then maybe there would be some way to know. But what kind of world would that be?

But even if the AP did the final poll before the bowls that season it wouldn't have mattered for Arkansas since they were #2 behind Michigan State.

Bama is going to claim it, Arkansas is going to claim it and both have hardware to back up their claim. I'm fine with that.

Bama claims 1941 Championship despite finishing third in the SEC behind champ Mississippi State and Tenn.

Minnesota was the AP champ that year (State was #16 and Bama #20 in the AP)

Not sure what obscure poll the Tide used to claim that one.

Using the Elephants strategy State should claim 1940 as NC. We finished 10-0-1 second behind UT in the SEC 5-0 to 4-0-1 but UT lost their bowl game and State won the Orange Bowl.

Miss St couldn't claim 1940. They didn't get any selections in the records book.
