re: Arkansas fans, what should we expect in 2016 from the Hogs?

We should have a solid-good team. In another conference, we'd be picked to be division contenders and ranked in the top 20. Many pundits have us lower based on their projections for us in this meat grinder of a conference.

Dan skipper is a massive dude. He probably dips 2 cans at a time
He will be starting at left tackle this season. Next to him, at guard, is Hjalte Froholdt. Remember that guy's name. He is a stud. I guess he has only been playing football for a few years, and he was recruited here as a defensive tackle, but they decided they wanted him on the offensive line this season. So this is his first go round playing offensive line...since this spring, and he has that position locked down tight. He legit looks like an animal, and apparently has enough leverage/power to knock a d-lineman flat on his arse with a single pop of his hands. And these d-linemen he is going against are bad dudes themselves.
Between Skipper and Froholdt on that left line, I expect a lot of power run plays to the left where that entire half of the field is basically erased from the play. I think it explains how Devwah Whaley was able to average 7 YPC this fall against Arkansas's number one defense.

I am extremely excited for this season, and I would not be surprised at all to see the Hogs win double digit games this year. They will have a shot to win every single one of them.
Agree, BoarEd. I do think getting off to a good start is vital. The Hogs need to throttle LA Tech and beat TCU. It could be fun if that happens.

I'll admit I'm not as in tune with your returners, what you lost, positions you are confident/not confident in, or just general expectations.
Definitely in tune with Aggy's tho

Allen in the 2800-3200 range with 28-30 TD's
I went all the way back to 1990 and the only Arkansas QBs who have put up those numbers are Brandon Allen last year and Ryan Mallett in 2010 and 2011. So a 3rd year starter, and an NFL starter in an offense with a polar opposite focus than your current offense.
What makes you think a first year starter will put up those numbers?

Ryan Mallet isn't an NFL starter.
But still, I agree. Highly doubtful that Austin puts up numbers like that.
But I will say this...his numbers will be very respectible. He ain't no scrub. Not by any means.
ETA: No, actually I take that back...I think Austin can get to the low end of that range. Somewhere around 2,800 yards, with over 20 touchdowns.

He has been an NFL starter and has that level of an arm.
But I wouldn't be surprised if Allen put up about 2800 yards. 20 TD is reasonable with yalls WRs and TEs. I was mostly pointing out 30 TD would be rare for a first year starter anywhere. That's a season record at a lot of schools.

quote:Tyler Wilson was our starting QB in 2011. He threw for 3638 yards and 24 TD's. Then turned around and threw for 3387 and 21 in 2012 with John L. Smile at the helm. The TD number is lofty, but Arkansas QB's have been putting up 3k passing yards with regularity post-Nutt and it's not like Austin Allen is some new kid. This is his 4th year on campus and will have spent even more time with Enos than Brandon did.

Enos is still here and Austin is a small step or no step down from where his older brother was last year talent wise. If anything he's a step up in ability from Brandon.
It was really Brandon's experience that allowed him to start last year. That experience is huge in crunch time and Brandon bailed us out a few times last year when our defense failed us. If our defense doesn't improve like it's expected to, we'll take a step back and only win 6 or 7 games. But our improved defense and experienced skill positions around Austin will make up for his lack of experience.

but if we have one of our goofy 5 or 6 OT games he could get 6 or 7 there and only need 2 a game the rest of the year, not likely but possible
also depends on how long it takes the OT to come together because they guys n the other end of the passes are going to be really good

Early non-con game should tell us something.
I expect them to beat TCU.

They may whip our arse, but to me TCU is severely overrated pre season. Two starters return and they only return 2 OL from their two deep. Defense should be solid, but that offense is unproven.

It is important if we are going to have a great season but Bert has shown this team can bounce back after early losses. Losing TCU and A&M early would be difficult to overcome though.

Nah, It appears to me that the players keep the focus for the entire season. Bielema installs a tough mentality.
Just an outsiders view...

The TCU thing really has me stumped. I mean, the Hogs return much more of their team than they do. TCU is replacing like 80% of their offensive production this season. And damn near their entire offensive line.
Figuring them to light up the score board and beat Arkansas in week 2 seems insane.
I think that Arkansas is going to kick their arse.

All of that is true but it is just going to come down to how well we can contain Kenny Hill and what he is able to do after not playing for over a year.

I believe they do return most of a pretty salty defense.
