I just have this feeling in the pit of my gut that it'll be worse than the BCS for the first few seasons. I heard one person saying that the four best teams from the championship conference should go -- does that mean Notre Dame never gets a chance? I don't see any logical way to do it aside from taking the top four teams no matter what their conference is and put them in the playoff.

Sorry if Germans.

I will reserve judgement till I see it in action, but I think it will be better than what is in place today.

Everyone thinks the current way is awful until they see the new way.

Thanks Obama.

It's hard to be worse, but if we're installing it to make it more 'fair', then how do we fairly get the teams in without shunning a few with similar records?

Next iteration of playoffs will include the five champions of the power conferences plus 3 at-larges. 8 teams. Only question is whether bowls will be a part of the games and to what extent. Expect some of the games to be at home stadium of the higher seeds. Can't wait.

They've said that winning your conference will be emphasized. Let's put it this way, this year, AU, FSU, MSU and Baylor being selected wouldn't be a shock, imo.

With all the bitching about the BCS, I hope it crashes and burns.

It will be a committee. It will favor name brand programs an be extremely political. For instance this yea, Alabama might have an outside shot because the number 5 team that is a conference champ is the champion of a major conference... but it is Baylor. If that team was Oklahoma or tu, then Alabama wouldn't stand a chance. Same with Notre Dame. If Notre Dame had one loss, it would go over and Alabama team that couldn't win its division.

I think they have to fulfill this contract (12 years?). But contracts can be modified.

I don't think anyone can make an argument for why Bama shouldn't go in the place of MSU or even Baylor while they're simultaneously ranked lower (or ought to be).

The idea of sending four conference champions is dumb. Send the four best teams and the playoff could be beneficial to college football.

And the BCS has their own set of rules for how Notre Dame qualifies for a BCS bowl (if they're in the top 12, they get a bid I think), so I'm sure the playoff would make their own Notre Dame rules if necessary.

The selection committee isn't bound by rankings.

Yes. People are so biased, and the Arkansas AD will keep LSU out at all costs, I bet.

Just pick the top 4 teams in the BCS. No need to add a human element picking the "4 best teams." It's so debatable and biased.

Totally agree.

If we have potentially two teams from the same conference that are in the top four, how can anyone justify not giving the number 3 or number four team a shot?

I'm telling you guys, this is gonna be a mess.

And will stay this way until it changes to 8.

Too much divide between people thinking conference champs should be in instead of just choosing the 4 best teams.

Florida and Alabama in 09 are perfect example of why the whole conference championship requirement is stupid.

It's also apparent that matches will be chosen for monetary value rather than some formula.

Although, the one thing is that we might escape some of these...bizarre ones.

Who wants to see UCF in a BCS bowl? Lawd have mersay.

I think it will be a bigger clustermess. Take this season for example....who are the four most deserving teams? Everybody knows who the two most deserving teams are. When you go to four teams, somebody, or multiple somebodies, are getting screwed.

Whatever gets us to 16 teams I suppose. That is where the sweet spot is. I just wish we could have kept what we had until we got to the 16 model......because 4 teams chosen by a "commitee" is going to be disastrous.
