A groin injury but that makes 9 pitchers now with 7 needing Tommy John surgery. We are so thin already after losing 12 off of last years team signing pro contracts that we were 2 players short to fill our travel squad at Ole Miss lol.

Andy Cannizaro is doing wonders with this team considering. Anyone here that can pitch and walk on? You won't be turned down lol.

7 pitchers needing Tommy John means someone is doing some bad coaching.

Wes Johnson. Good Luck with that Arkansas, heard y'all already have 3 out with tommy john this year.

When you take last year's SEC batting champion and turn him into a pitcher while hitting .400 this year, you know we're desperate.

You have 7 pitchers with injuries this year alone requiring TJ? That sounds unbelievable.

ETA: Wikipedia tells me MLB has only had 10 pitchers undergo TJ since the beginning of 2016. What the hell is MSU doing to their pitchers?

9 pitchers lost for the year does too. I'm not a huge baseball guy, but how many do you carry on a roster?

For OM, I can think of 4 starters, two middle relievers, and two closers. That's eight. And I'm sure there's a handful of other guys in development that I've never seen. But I was thinking you only carried like 12 pitchers on a roster. Maybe 14-15 at the max. And you're saying 9 of them are down? How do you even make it through a 4 game week?

By sending a Soph DH/1B to the bump mid-week, and by making our All SEC CF the Sunday starter. We can't even fill out an SEC travel roster

This is not a fair comparison. The overwhelming majority of TJ surgeries are done on young males whose growth plates are still open. It would be safe to say that most MLB players have reached physical maturity.

It might not be an apples to apples to comparison, but the proportion of MSU pitchers who required the surgery is far outside the normal range for any age player. It sounds like more than half of their pitching staff has required the surgery which is insane.

Our pitching coach from the last year is the common theme. We have be decimated by injuries this year. Can is doing an impressive job

It's not Wes' fault. This is happening more and more because the travel ball circuit plus HS coaches pushing the pitchers to the brink. Once in college it's only a matter of time until it pops.

That's a whole different thread....but seriously this year around around baseball isn't good for the kids and isn't good for the game.

I agree. Let's all be happy that Wes is at Arkansas now, and leave it at that

He's doing a fantastic job with our pitchers so far so I'll take that problem.
