I love college football but after suffering through what seemed like a hundred commercials to watch less than a half of football yesterday (this game was on the SEC network but they're all the same), I turned off the game and watched a movie on dvd. Two years ago, I did finally drop pay/cable tv because I was tired of watching commercials. Well, when my sling tv subscription (I sign on for a few months to watch football) expires at the end of the month, that's going to be it for me.

It's not just the basic concept of commercial advertising--I get that. Rather, it's the sheer amount. Have you ever tried to watch local news?

So, at least for me, the out of control greed driving the selling and airing of ads, has driven me away from football on tv. From all the comments I'm reading on social media, apparently I'm not the only one.

I'd be driven away too if I were an L6U fan. There's always the Premier League.

Welcome to the world of $$$ and without it the major programs would be shell of what they are now. It sux, but I grew up in an era where you only were allowed one appearance a YEAR on TV...if you were lucky! ABC had control lock stock and barrel of college football and Keith Jackson with Frank Broyles were the broadcast team. It wasnt until early 1980s that the CFB was formed after lawsuits and college football could have a lot more games televised. Heres what I got to see in the 1960s:

1963 Gators 0 Ga Tech 9
1964 Gators 24 SMU 8
1965 Gators 17 AU 28

Thats it...one game a year and all the SEC schools if they were lucky...would be on TV once a year.

I'll take the commercials.

This summer I got DVR. I start record, stay off the internet, start watching about 1.5 hours in, and always catch up late in the 4th quarter Just by FF the commercials and halftime. I also fast forward official reviews and player injuries. Actual game action is less than an hour of actual content.

I could never go back now.

I've tried to watch other teams games live that I didn't bother recording, and I just can't do it anymore.

If Walter Beyers had not been such a dictator for the B1G for about a quarter of a century, it could have been much better early on.

Yes and Yes!

Many of the modern broadcasters suck, especially those for FOX.

Again, f*ck Walter Beyers protecting the B1G monopoly
(Not 1 B1G or PAC team crossed the picket line to join the CFA)

Some commercials are one thing, but the mind numbing number now makes me want to turn the TV off. OP may be LSU fan but is not wrong about how TV is killing the sport.

No shite. I never had anything against Pepsi until last night. After three straight commercial breaks, I thought someone accidently kept running the same ad. Then it continued time after time after time. Then I knew Pepsi was trying to ruin the whole fricking game for everybody.

You guys realize there's only a commercial break during a change of possession right? So if there's a lot of 3 and outs or a lot of really quick scores then you get a lot of commercials. The networks don't just call down to the field for random time outs to sell you shite.

Don't have to if REC is doing their job in the first place.

The number of commercials is bad, but the extreme repetition is what I think the real problem is. I can't imagine Pepsi actually wanted one single ad played 60ish times in a single game.

LMFAO......my wife and in laws were pissed about that commercial. It honestly didn't bother me that much since it was a funny commercial, it was just awkward everytime they kept showing it. We started counting at half time and I think it was played like 10 times after halftime.

As short as it was, they should've been able to make 6 or 7 different ones to rotate if they were going to show it THAT many times
