So I was looking around at the FPI rankings on ESPN, and I found something called "game score" which is out of 100

Alabama's last 5 games have been a 97, 95, 97, 87, 97

Game Score: Measure of game performance including how well the team controlled the game along with the final result, accounting for site and opponent strength. On a 0 to 100 scale, where 100 is best.

So I looked into it, and the other top 10 teams on the FPI list have exactly 1 rating over 95. That would be Ole Miss winning over Alabama at 98.

Considering this is an "objective" score based on TOP, score, ranking and site, how in the world can anyone question that Alabama isn't the most intimidating college football program as of now?

Looks to me like you struggled the most against OM and UT (looking at final score rather than game score) which are 10 and 12 in FPI. LSU should've put up a bigger fight since they're 8th in FPI but what UT and OM share in common is the spread (although we do run very different styles of it) which is what Bama has difficulty shutting down whereas LSU's offense is exactly what Bama's defense is made to stop.

Nobody claims they are not the most intimidating team. It's interesting to see 3 teams from the Big 12 top Alabama and Clemson in the FPI. The remaining SOS ranks are intriguing as well. The only "game score" that looks even close to accurate are Wisoncsin, Georgia, and LSU. No way that game against Tennessee can be argued a 95 out of a possible 100 nor the A&M game a 97. It's nice to see some type of objective, but it looks pretty well made up based on those 2 discrepancies.

Could be those games are rated when they are played. TAMU was undefeated and a top 10 team when we played them.

I think all games are rated based in rankings at time of play. Either way it doesn't matter. Bama, if they win out, will have beaten 4 top ten teams at time of play and two in LSU and Florida who are truly deserving of top ten rankings. I don't think any other conference can boast that.

Interesting stats, and I'm torn between how much rankings should count when playing.

Georgia
Texas A&M
Ole Miss
LSU
And even Wisconsin

All these above teams were undefeated when Bama played them and most of them "Brought it" during those games. They still had plenty to play for, they were healthy, and this matters. So what these teams are when you play them does matter some, but it's not everything.

This season, Bama seems to be getting stronger. I didn't feel that last season from Bama at all. Plus, with so many team bringing it against Bama. One would think this would make this years Bama team stronger in the long run. We'll see....

@ Miss St will most likely be a tough game for Bama. First, everyone seems to bring it when playing Bama these days. Secondly, Miss St's QB gives them a decent chance against Bama too.

So winning at alabama gets the same rating as winning at Texas A&M. That makes sense.

Also, you're telling me a 5 point home win over Tennessee in which you needed a TD drive in the final 3 three minutes is more impressive than any other top 10 team's win? Scoring system seems legit.

Yea they probably custom tailored the scoring system to make Alabama look better than anyone else.

Never understood why people try to downgrade prior victories. Football alot of time comes down who you play when. Ole Miss was better then Bama earlier in season and won...Miss St possible could be better than LSU at end of season. That's why I like the committee so metrics are used but it's the eye test.

I took it as quality of play based on opponent. Not sure though.

So Bama gets a 95 for beating a ranked team at a neutral site by 18. OK, baseline established.

Then Bama beats an unranked team at the last minute, at home, by 5, and gets a....95?

I better check my walls for a poopstika, because I smell some shite now.

I don't think you're grasping the concepts here. Teams "bring it" against Alabama, which makes the scores go up.

Other teams don't have teams "bring it" against them, so they don't get that points boost.

Never said that, it's just obviously a terrible system. The others I could somewhat get on board with maybe but the UT game being that high is a complete joke.

Average team

At home

Close throughout

Trailed very, very late

95!

Tennessee's "spread" offense scored 14 points bruh. How is that having difficulty shutting down? A&M's "spread" offense scored 16 points (Bama's D outscored A&M's "spread" offense).

As for Ole Miss, they scored a shite ton of points, but 24 of those points came on a total of 77 yards of offense due to turnovers and another 7 points came on what can only be described as a fluky play in which the ball thrown prayerfully literally bounced off a defenders helmet into a WR's hands.

MSU's "spread" offense scored a total of 20 on Bama last year (with the final 7 of that 20 coming with 15 seconds left in the game).

This narrative that Bama "struggles" against the spread isn't quite as spot on as people want to believe if they really examine it closely.
