Can I jump on the bama baseball bandwagon now? You know, since none of us care about anything but football

College Baseball also has the problem of competing with other college sports, it starts during the prime of basketball while also having to go against spring football.

But basketball is done by the time it gets to the middle of the schedule. I don't buy spring football as an excuse, except on maybe the day of the spring game. For one, spring football is biggest in the South, where baseball already does well. Weather is a good reason though. And that may be one of the biggest. End of February is nice in TX, LA, FL, and CA, but is still cold in many parts of the country.

There are people who go to the practices to watch too. Overall, it isn't a big impact.

Just including it since it is "the start" of the new season, then you have the end of basketball to go along with the beginning of MLB, lots of competition for a sport that isn't real popular in comparison.

Yeah, several big name universities up north do not have a baseball program, mainly due to weather.

Are there that many open pratices? Honest question, cuz I am just a sidewalk fan. I know LSU opens one to the students and does some special things.
and before anyone says anything about being a sidewalker, I don't care. I have been a fan of LSU since the late 80's. Living in TN during that time through most of the 90's.

I guess it would depend on the coaching staffs, but I recall them all being open one year and people actually choosing to go watch practice over the game being played in Baum.

I guess we aren't great examples either. Our fanbases both love ALL football, and are top 2 or 3 in baseball attendance.
I think Tulane is top 25 averaging about 1500.

Yeah, as a whole I wouldn't say college baseball is popular outside of the south and the socal region.

Of course Omaha is well watched, but I would imagine MLB sees a booster in viewers during the playoffs as well.

I don't think I've watched a complete regular season MLB baseball game in years as I don't really follow a specific team, but tend to watch a few play off games a year.

I hate the NBA and have only watched a few games since Jordan retired the 2nd time.

I watch several NFL game a week during the season and all the playoff games. I will watch CFB when an interesting game is on during the week, tend to watch a few SEC games each Saturday. Same with college basketball, I watch my team and will watch the marquee games OOC as well as SEC games (and there has been ton of shitty ones that I've watched in recent years). I will watch complete games during March, glad you can do that now without the networks deciding when to cut to other games playing.

I'm alot like that. But I do have a favorite MLB team. The Giants, so it's not like I ignore MLB cuz my Team stinks(well this year they do). At least this year I don't have to choose between a WS game and a Saints game.
for college basketball I mostly watch LSU and VCU. Even hoping to fly up for VCU-Richmond game.

Does that mean the SEC Tournament will be held in Tuscaloosa now?

Tuscaloosa, Hoover ... it's all the same.

That is one thing that needs to be rectified soon, in short order.

Now, let's get a tuition deferred program where we can sign more than the 12 or 13 the NCAA lets you.
We can build the best stadium in America. Until we can sign kids from other places beside Mtn Brook, Vestavia and Tusc county, we wont win the SEC. Once we get the schollies evened up we can compete with anybody. Thats THE thing holding us back right now.

In the 70's football made everybody have equal schollies because they were tired of Bama, ND, USC, etc winning all the time and who had 300 players on the team. The time has come to do the same for baseball. Either get a deferred tuition or say baseball can have 20 players, period. Lotto schollies or not.

Teams like LSU have almost as many baseball as football players and when you can have unlimited pitchers that is a huge advantage. Observation on this subject when Bama radio broadcaster said you literally would have to shoehorn another player in LSU's dugout.

Alabama has baseball fans-- however, unlike Baton Rouge, or Columbia where the metro population is huge and the baseball experience is awesome, the appeal just isn't there.

Alabama with a new stadium (that hopefully has a drinking berm/outfield situation like Swayze Field at Ole Miss for students), will foster in a new passion that our team hasn't seen since the 90's.

For those that watched Alabama baseball last year, the team made great strides, performed well in the SEC tourney, and despite the collapse at regionals, made a great run for a young team. With a new stadium in tow, the program is something that I look forward to cheering on now, and live in the near future.

Our current baseball stadium is pure garbage, and I'm excited to get rid of that eye sore.
