Well I for one would have definitely liked to see Hurts sat for the LSU game.
He's not good at all... O.o

Utterly ridiculous. The kid makes mistakes but has been a net positive running the offense and gives them an option that puts pressure in D. My guess this is a troll and meh in execution.
This. Some of our rivals try to troll Hurts as if a bunch of Bama fans are homeristicly supporting a Hurts for Heisman bid like they always did for LF7. That is not the case at all but I think most of us realize the added dimension his run game provides far outweighs the work he needs to do on his arm, for now. Like you said this creates great stress for a D when you add in the fact that he CAN make every pass he is asked to make (he just doesn't much of the time). He will mitigate that fumble issue with time. All this said, probably his most important quality as a TF leader of the #1 team in the country is the ice running in his veins. He just doesn't get rattled; he doesn't dwell on his mistakes or his successes. Did anyone see what he did after that long TD run to break the shutout late in the game against LSU? No cheering, just waving his hands down to everyone like 'calm down.' If I had done something like that at 18 I would have ended up in the stands.

What you are witnessing is a QB that makes a lot of mistakes and is still better than 95% of the QB's out there. Wait until he cleans up those mistakes and learns to read defenses better in his sophomore and junior seasons. I'm guessing he wins the Heisman before he leaves Tuscaloosa.

Look, I am no Friend of Bama but I can respect talent when it is shown. The kid shows no expression regardless if he did something bad or something great. That is one of the best attributes a QB can have. He exudes a confidence even though he isn't polished.
He will be more dangerous as the experience piles up. If the offense didn't score points then the OP would have a point, and no doubt a good defense can help an offense and vice versa. I'm impressed with Hurts and I never really heard of him till this year. He has played a huge part on this undefeated season. Anyone who denies it is trolling or a dimbshit.

quote:No, we had Barnett who is a pretty good passer and a good overall QB. Few know this, but Jalen won the job back in May. While everyone else left and went home after graduation, Jalen stayed, worked out and watched film every single day. He did this on his own. Saban took notice and told Lane to develop a game plan around Jalen. When fall camp started Jalen earned more respect and pushed Barnett. Barnett got the start but seemed out of whack. Jalen earned the position and will work hard and develop into a great passer.
The problem is that Saban and Kiffin butchered recruiting the QB position so badly that they're forced to start a true freshman QB in the first place. Add in the fact that you have a QB best suited for a spread offense while the rest of the offense is built to run a pro-style offense and you have an offense with this weird clash of mish-mash styles. It speaks to the level of Bama's talent that they've still been able to make it work.

Saban never builds a team around the QB. It's his plan. He removes that obstacle. He builds his team around the men in the trenches.

And it's a good thing too. I firmly believe Barnett would have been worth 1-2 losses. No way we beat Ole Miss without Jalen.

By true freshman standards, Hurts has been exceptional. For a national championship contender, Hurts is still a huge question mark. I just don't like the way Bama has recruited the QB position over the years. Here are all of the QBs they've recruited after McCarron.
2010
Philip Sims- Only attempted 28 passes at Alabama, ended up flaming out badly after transferring to Virginia
Blake Sims- He turned out to be a success story but that was mostly by accident. Everybody believed Coker was going to be the QB taking over for McCarron but Coker struggled so much in practices and scrimmages that Sims was able to beat him out.
2011
Phillip Ely- Only attempted four passes at Alabama. He did end up having a couple decent seasons for Toledo but again, that's Toledo. It's a MAC school. Why did they offer a scholarship to a QB who was a MAC-level talent?
2012
Alec Morris- Attempted one pass at Alabama. This guy transferred to North Texas and couldn't even hold down the starting job there. Again, why was he the only scholarship QB from that class?
2013
Cooper Bateman- Has attempted 66 passes at Alabama. Couldn't even beat out a true freshman for the starting QB job. Likely to transfer after this year.
2014
David Cornwell- Has attempted zero passes at Alabama and has been completely buried in the depth chart although he's slowly been moving up due to all of the transfers.
Anyway, it's unlikely he'll ever do anything of note at Alabama and again, Cornwell was the only scholarship QB from this class.
2015
Blake Barnett- Ended up transferring to Arizona State. Jury's still very much out on him on what kind of QB he'll turn out to be.
That's a pretty terrible run of QB recruiting. Blake Sims was the only player who ended up doing anything of note at Alabama and that was mostly by accident due to Coker's ineptitude.

As much as we love Jalen I think we all know that he is the weak link on our team right now. That's not necessarily taking anything away from him because he is still playing way over his head for a true freshman, he just happens to be on a loaded team that can carry him past his own mistakes. You will all hate him by the time he is a junior looking like Deshaun Watson.

I guess that's why we've been struggling so much.

But y'all bitch and moan and complain continuously about the team Bama fields now, y'all are sick and tired of Bama football. I can't imagine what this place would be like if Bama was truly UNSTOPPABLE.
I mean Saban gave every team a chance to catch us in a transition year...Truefrosh QB, totally inexperienced RBs, new center & a frosh on the oline. THIS was the year to take advantage of a very "young" offense.

I wasn't going to answer this but Hurts has improved quite a bit even if our fan base doesn't want to admit it.
He has thrown enough deep balls in every game to make a difference.
He also threw a great pass to Dieter against Florida while Dieter was surrounded by 6 gators. The pass was perfect and under pressure and while running.
They have backed off of him running slightly but if you notice he still got a few first downs when needed.
Sky is the limit for this kid and people need to realize that. Key word kid, he is TF and 19 years old.

One with half a brain and can actually throw the damn ball with a little accuracy. Hurts can't hit the side of a barn.

Bama beat LSU 10-0. How could LSU be down by 11+ at any point in that game?

Boz most of us get it but there's a national title right in front of this team this year. As fans it's fun. No one wants Lane refusal to run the ball or Jalens inability to hang onto it to cost them a game. The interceptions don't bother me as much as his fumbles. It's hard for them to get to this point and you can't waste opportunities when you get them. Everyone understand he is the only hope at QB for Bama to win a national title. And the best option.
