Gov. Robert Bentley said today he wanted to learn more about concerns over the future of UAB football and said this season was cause for optimism for the program.
quote:
"Hopefully it's going to survive, and I'm going to find out some more information about the situation over the next day or two," Bentley said.

A program that loses $17 MILLION a year and a government official thinks it may be worth keeping.

More press = more pressure.
Hell I would be grateful for any Alabama alum to support UAB at this point in time.

If Bentley is in charge of the UAB relief effort, sayonara UAB football.

Why are they folding anyway? Because they can't get a new stadium? Why not play at the current one?
Posted on 12/1/14 at 5:15 pm to NBamaAlum
again UA fan is not mutually exclusive to UAB fan.
Posted on 12/1/14 at 5:15 pm to Patton
takes one look at them hemorrhaging money and the lack of fan interest and goes, "Oh, ok."

One last quote from Gov
quote:
Asked if he planned to get actively involved in deciding the program's future, Bentley said he had not decided.
"But that is a decision that the Board of Trustees makes, and I am the chairman of the Board of Trustees and I always want people to remember that," the governor said.

UAB football is now the biggest cause de celebre of Auburn fans everywhere. That's enough to know that order has again been restored. Roll Tide, y'all.

Here's the sentence right before that.
Disingenuous a-hole.
quote:
According to CBS Sports, UAB athletics received $85.4 million in direct institutional support and $28.4 million from student fees between 2006 and 2013, with subsidies accounting for 64 percent of UAB's athletic revenue in fiscal year 2013.
Disingenuous a-hole.

Why?
Because a successful UAB helps Birmingham. A thriving Birmingham helps Alabama.
A rising tide lifts all boats.
Full disclosure, my wife was an associate prof at UAB, my dad got his Masters of Public Administration at UAB, I was a TA at UAB and I taught in Birmingham City Schools for more than a decade. UAB has a great program for Birmingham City Schools, giving scholarships to kids who pass two or more AP exams.
UAB is a boon for Birmingham and the state. If its undergraduate program continues to grow, it only helps the state.

If only UAB had started slinging toilet paper after wins, that might have saved them.
