Someone is afraid of getting buried by new talent.

Really strange. I guess maybe it's a good way to get feedback on your strengths, weaknesses and areas of improvement needed, but he isn't close to being in a position to be an NBA player. And he's an Oak Hill kid with an NBA coach as his college coach.

Strange.

Same thing with Devin Robinson. No agent yet. I'm not getting my hopes up though.

I'm seeing a lot of fringe NBA draft propects declare without signing with an agent. Why can't they just file for evaluations like in CFB without having to actually declare?

The whole declaring but being able to come back is a pretty recent rule. I guess this is basically the equivalent of that.

I hope at least.

He announced he was signing with an agent already.

As long as they don't sign with an agent, if they don't get drafted it doesn't affect their eligibility and they can return to school.

There was a UAB player doing the same thing and that's what the article said anyway

He will. Not that I wouldn't be happy for him if it happened, but let's be realistic - does he even have a shot at being drafted?

They can and that is exactly what he is doing. Thread title is completely misleading.

"Braxton Key, a Freshman All-SEC Team forward for the University of Alabama basketball team, will enter the 2017 NBA Draft but will not hire an agent.

The move will allow Key to receive evaluations from NBA teams yet return to Alabama after the NBA draft combine in May, if he so chooses."

Yeah. I already knew this. But don't kid yourself if you think these players can wait to see if they're drafted before they can make the easy decision to go back to school. There is still a deadline after the combine where the players have to make a decision.

Does the rule that you can withdraw your name only once still exist?

I expect Key to return, but this may mean he's planning on leaving after next year
