Yet we still have some of the houndstooth faithful "concerned" before every season.

Help this year? We almost never rely on true freshmen in the interior. Guys like A'Shawn and Daron Payne are very much the exception to the rule.

Down the line might we have some issues? Sure. As of right now? Find me another roster in CFB with a better blend of talent and experience in their DL/Pass Rush 2-deep.

1st group : Allen, Payne, Tomlinson, Williams, Anderson
2nd group : Hand, Frazier, Ball, Jennings/Hall, Miller

The only guy in that group who is probably not up to par talent wise is Dakota Ball. And, Davis isn't eligible, but it sounds like he will be eventually, so he will be added to the mix at some point this season or at worst next.

The depth isn't perfect, and (like most teams) if we have important guys get hurt we'll be relying on some young kids.........but that's how most teams operate. Most teams don't have a 2-deep of NFL players like we did last season. That isn't me drinking Kool-Aid, that is me being realistic about how college football rosters are GENERALLY made up and realizing that 2015 was a blip on the radar that shouldn't be used as the bar for which our depth has to meet. If you do that, you are going to chicken little yourself to death every season.

OM beat bama wo much dl depth, so depth can't be that big of a deal.

And then collapsed down the stretch and didn't win the West because of said lack of depth.

It matters.

This is very encouraging. UT missed 2 FG's in the first half and lost by 5 points.

Will they be 2015 good?

Honestly, I've heard two perspectives.

One is that we will have a drop off, but if the QB position comes around we should get more production on offense to offset it. Big if, but still.

Others say that the talent is amazing, and that our defense may very well reach 2011 status or better. My crimson glasses firmly glued on, that's what I'm banking on ;)

I tend to try and look at the people who have been more accurate over the years and get their take. They seem pretty stoked about our defense.

And was a mercy knee-save from losing by 12.

I want to believe you but I just can't anymore. The pattern seems to be that Bama has a massive drop off in the first month of the season after losing a bunch of players to the NFL but by November the new starters have experience to go with their 5 stars and you roll into the post-season with ease.

I feel safe in saying that the 2011 BCS Championship game saw the greatest collection of two defenses that have ever (and possibly will ever) square off.

Our starting LT is out with plantar fasciitis, and we just had a LB suspended (broke an undisclosed team rule).

We're all missing something.

I'm judging off of Alabama standards not USC or Stanford or whoever else...and by our standards our Dline has no depth and it will be a problem/concern.

Even by our standards, the depth here is pretty normal. Elite starters, young/talented/unproven backups, sporadic filler player.

Look back over our D-lines, into the 2nd and 3rd units, and see what you find. A lot of guys with no experience like Frazier, Hall, Davis, etc.

2011 Bama DL
Damion Square, Jesse Williams, Josh Chapman, Ed Stinson, Quinton Dial, Nick Gentry

2016 Bama DL
Dalvin Tomlinson, Daron Payne, Jon Allen, Da'Shawn Hand, Josh Frazier, OJ Smith, Jamar King, Dakota Ball

Think Bama's gonna be ok

To "lick chops" about someone's DL you have to have an OL and an offense that wears out DLmen by making them chase... so LSU is not the team to take advantage of a lack of depth

Well, that's just wrong.

But to those saying that Bama's dline won't be as good as last year: so what? They could be the second best dline in college football history and not be better than those guys.

That's a little bit of hyperbole, but that front seven was really good. I think a lot of NFL teams are going to regret passing on Ashawn Robinson in the first round.

Do you understand over/unders? That means the total score is around 40. So a 23-17, 27-13 type game. Seems reasonable to me.

We should manage this year. Huge drop-off after Payne in the middle but we have a couple of big boys that are capable. They just need experience. Gonna miss Robinson and Reed, they shut the run down last year.

What concerns me is missing out on a dominant NG type last year and not in the mix for one this year. That might hurt us in a couple of years.
