Returning production figures into that as well which in itself is big. You don't lose the players that y'all did and don't feel that

With all due respect, we lose that much or more almost every season, just in different positions.

We lost all of our receivers, our QB, a chunk of our OL and 2/3 of our RB production going into 2015.

I get that George but a realistic person has to think that there will be a drop off at some point in time. The law of averages will come into play. Will it be this year? I guess time will tell.

They only guys we know without a doubt will be great are Allen and Payne. Tomlinson hasn't shown that much. Frazier is an unknown pretty much. Hand has gobs of potential but didn't jump out at you when he got in last year. I believe he takes the next step but it's still to be determined. Losing two NFL DTs will hurt us more than I think some Bama fans want to admit. Especially against the Arky and LSUs of the world. Reed was so damn good agasint the run last year.

I think our D is going to be great, but the loss of our two stud DTs with only one real proven replacement does give me cause for concern.

I just want to see a 3-4 D line that's six deep in badasses. What Bama had last season doesn't happen too often.

Reed, A'shawn

This sucks. We're replacing Reed, A'shawn, Payne with Payne and Frazier. That is a downgrade. Payne is a monster, but that's one monster replacing 3. Not to mention the leadership that Reed and Robinson provided (we'll get that from Allen and Tomlinson but it will still be missed from the two that left)

Ragland

As good as he was, this one doesn't worry me as much. Foster is a better prospect. He's a more complete player and a better athlete. If he can get guys in the right spot, '16 Foster is a better player than '15 Ragland. We'll also see Evans on the field a lot and he's just a missile. Really came on strong late last season. The line backing group with he and Foster will be the prototype sideline-to-sideline group.

Not really - I'm not saying we won't eventually lose 3 games or something, but I don't think the law of averages will have anything to do with it.

We recruit great players across the board, we generally lose a similar amount of talent each year just in different spots, we start new seasons with 2-3 position groups that are going to rely "new players" (soph-juniors who were 4 and 5 stars who have developed in the program).

Honestly, of all the years, the losses this year are covered up more so by the fact that their "backups" in prior years were huge contributors and elite players who have ALREADY proven themselves (DL, LB, CB).

I think, if they avoid key injuries up front, this defense will be the best we've had since 2011.

Reed and Robinson was pushing guys dicks in on every play, every play! I agree you don't just replace players like that. Now I am not saying this defense won't be good because we know they will be very good. Will they be 2015 good?

Come on man. This might be true but you had both on the field at the same time last year. Ragland was a freaking monster for y'all defense

I sure hope not

I'd like to see a different game plan besides "get Fournette killed" fro Miles and co.

Dline depth isn't concerning, last year we were blessed...very blessed. Welcome back to normalcy.

Also Reakwon Davis is getting alot of hype as a freshman. Without looking it up he is somewhere around 6'7 280lbs

I doubt he plays due to eligibility issues. Sucks because he was getting good praise out of fall camp.

Yea - if the benchmark for having good depth is 2015 Alabama then we may very well have shaky depth for the next 50 football seasons (along with everyone else in America).

That was a once in a generation type level of depth and talent at one position group.

Completely agree!! That defensive front was more than likely a once in a lifetime. I will say that I love the young guys we have and what Coach O is doing here finally again.

The 2015 team had 7-8 high pick NFL defensive lineman all matured and ready to contribute at the same time. Most great teams with great DLs (some of the LSU lines, most of our lines, etc) have 3-4 great NFL linemen and then young, unproven, talented linemen. That is a great setup, and the norm for great setups amongst college position groups.

Yea but Foster is not a better run stuffer than Ragland...bottom line is Bama is going to give up a lot more rushing yards this year than normal

That's a solid point on Foster and Evans. Evans looked incredible in the title game. As an LSU fan it was the 2 defensive tackles that were a nightmare. They both could take on and win double teams. It's hard to do anything on offense when your dominated in the trenches.

I'll worry about the Bama defense the day I see Nick Saban put a shitty product on the field.

Nick's got this folks - he has proven year after year that he knows what the frick he is doing.

I think Ragland was better in the mental aspect of the game. I'll be pleasantly surprise if Foster is as good as last year's Ragland.

But who did we recruit thats going to help this year? Quinnon Williams is the only Dline man I know, Davis is not eligible, is Jamar King eligible? he's such a unknown its hard to even count on him to contribute...who else do we even have Dakota Ball the same guy that played TE the last two seasons, no disrespect but I dont think he could start on UK Dline...Jhonny Dwight, OJ Smith are they even SEC players? and thats all we have, any Alabama fan who doesnt see this as concerning have crimson in their eyes...I might be over looking someone.

I forgot Frazier

I feel like we say this a lot about Bama

the 2011 DL, and defense as a whole, for Bama was also once in a lifetime
