True, but outside of Meyer and maybe Bob Stoops, how many hall of fame HCs are out there?

Who knows? Dabo and Jimbo may not be Urban or Stoops, but they sure as hell aren't Curry or Shula.

go back and look at what Battle was doing in the twenty years prior, then come back and ask the question again if you're serious.
Hmmm...looks like he was a successful sports marketing executive at a company he founded. From his UA bio page I linked earlier:
quote:

Battle founded The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) in 1981, and served as president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) until 2002. He also served as chairman of the board of Licensing Partners International (LPI), which was created in 2001 to represent the licensing interests of non-collegiate sports properties, as well as corporate and entertainment properties. The companies were sold to IMG in 2007, but he continued as chairman of CLC and consultant to IMG until March of 2013 when he was called back to Alabama.
Wonder what was the secret to his success? Here's what wiki has to say:

Battle is the founder and chairman of The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC). In 1981, while working for Golden Eagle Enterprises in Selma, Alabama, Battle signed Paul "Bear" Bryant to a licensing agreement. The University of Alabama signed on as CLC’s first university client.

Man, I bet that was a tough sell.

True. It will be interesting to see if Bama can just 'open up the checkbook' and hire either of them when the time comes.

Hmmmm...so his Bryant connection was the secret to his ability to grow CLC into a $4B+...that's with a capital B...industry. Interesting.

The saying that "a rising tide lifts all boats"...I wonder how much money Auburn has made because of Battle.
