Apparently hired to be UAB's new OC.

Sorry if this is the wrong board, but I figured since he had been an SEC OC, it would count.

ETA: He was at Bama under Fran and IIRC Bama had good offenses but they also ran the option most of that time so I dunno. Feels like forever ago.

He's an experienced coach/. Not bad at all but doesn't seem to be a cutting edge offensive guru. Solid hire but not wow factor

One thing I loved about the option was that option play action pass. shite was good for a 50 yard bomb almost every time and the receiver would be wide open by about 15 yards.

The definition of retread.

Should be a decent hire for a program like UAB.

I liked his offense while he was OC at Alabama. That 2002 season was fun at times.

Fun facts:

His dad is a hall of fame HS coach in the Houston area.

Went to bama for grad school/Texas undergrad.

His daughter went to bama and she now works for the Hornets I believe. For a pic Google lana koenning.

He seems like the kinda guy that is happy to just have an easy job. That's why he took the USA job when that program started and now UAB.

Nice family good guy

His dad was a Damn good HS coach in Houston area and an even better fast pitch softball pitcher.

When Dan took the offense from him, we went from a okay offense to one of the best in SEC history. He is solid tho, but don't expect a lot of deep passes.

I think he's a good position coach, but as the controller of the entire offense- I don't know.

You're silly if you think Mullen hasn't had control of the offense the entire time.

If we were hiring an OC, he's the name you'd see people post out of pure sarcasm because he was that terrible. To be fair, I'm not sure what % of his terribleness was Fran's fault vs his, but he was bad.

Mullen didn't have complete control till this season. He has said many times in interview that this was the first season to take over the offense completely. He used to let Les call plays and would make changes if he deemed necessary.

He was handcuffed in a lot of important games and let loose on others. The two tu wins, he was given free reign to call what he wanted. Especially the last one at home and Frans last game. I am not sure how good he is overall because honestly he was hampered by a micromanaging coach. Good luck. He is a good position coah though as was said before.

Alabama killed LSU with that play single handedly in 2002.

Guess it depends on the personnel.

Les is very Koenning.

He seems to have become a little more conservative over the years but maybe last years bowl game was an indication he may return to being Koenning ole Leslie, the slyest tomcat in football.
