Houston is easily a better choice than Memphis or USF. If they add 4 to go to 14 then Houston makes sense.

1. BYU- obvious best option. But do they want the Big 12 or independence.
2. UCF- largest undergrad enrollment in the country. Young program, oozing with potential.
3. Cincinnati- Good school. Solid all around athletic department. Gives WVU a rival.
4. Houston- best natural fit, long history with core members, decent overall history including Heisman winner.

^^^ seems like an easy choice. Not the strongest immediate name impact, but could end up a solid group of additions when looking back.

USF- less than 100 miles from UCF. Like twin schools but USF has less potential. Could be rivals but competing with each other directly could keep both from reaching full potential.

Memphis- raise basketball profile, but bring down the conference in everything else including academics. Last resort, would be an embarrassment.

There's a reason UH is called Cougar High by the locals.

I would be fine with it. They are investing in new faculties including a new stadium. Good for them.

Wouldn't Memphis do a better job of getting the Big 12 into SEC country?

Before they strike into SEC Country, they have to stem the tide of the SEC washing all over Texas. I'm guessing that's their thinking with UH??

Without adding UTx, I don't think the SEC can do a whole lot more. The Big 12 has already lost Houston. Adding UH, won't do much. Adding Memphis and Cincy, helps the travel of WVU, and gets them into 2 markets, with TV's in 4 SEC states(assuming the Cindy Marv market extends into Kentucky.)

And this thinking is stupid on so many levels. Bringing in TCU didn't kick the SEC out of Texas, it allowed TCU to siphon off recruits from other B12 schools. Same thing would happen if the Coog High gets the nod.

Does one of those schools have a toilet replica for a stadium and the other school in the toilet?

Joining the Big XII would raise UH's profile, while at the same time, lowering that of the Big XII. It's a wash, from our standpoint.

If I were running the Big XII, I think I'd go ahead and grab Cincinnati and Memphis (sort of the make a bridge to West Virginia) and call it a day. Those would be marginal additions, but it would give them 12, and probably make WVU feel less isolated. You could probably sell it to Texas by saying it would allow the league to split back into divisions, and they'd only have to go to places like Ames and Morgantown once every four years in football, instead of every other year.

It would hurt our recruiting some.

But, it would also hurt UTw's (our main opposition in recruiting) recruiting, and we're doing more national recruiting now that we're in the SEC, so it's sort of an unfortunate though zero sum game in that respect.

It would be a blow to the conference's prestige though. It would 100% be seen nationally as SWC 2.0 and they'd be laughed-at.

It would hasten the end of the Big XII, which A&M doesn't want. We want that joke to last as long as it can be because it marginalizes UTw and OU.

OU would go ballistic. They're already freaking out over the prospect of it just because it makes them seem like such a joke by association. Adding UH would guarantee that they leave when the GOR is up.

UTw doesn't want UH either, both because they'd cut into their recruiting and because UH used to frequently beat UTw during UT's down period from the mid-80s through the end of the SWC.

Due to both power schools in the conference being opposed, I don't see it happening, but then again I wouldn't be shocked if it happened - the Big 12 does have a history of making REALLY bad decisions, after all.
