Q: What is the funniest thing any head coach said to you during the entire recruiting process?

A: Probably the South Carolina coach. It wasn’t the head coach, but a South Carolina coach, he was speaking on the basis of if a coach got offered another job and it’s higher that they’ll leave and things like that. He said if Ohio State had offered him another job that his butt would have been gone to Ohio State and he would be calling me the next day asking if I want to go to Ohio State. That was in a home visit. It was hilarious.

Q: Who was it that said that?

I forgot his name. He came from Georgia. He just moved to South Carolina this year.

Q: Was it Bryan McClendon?

A: If I’m not mistaken. I’m not sure exactly though.

For those that don't know, Bryan McClendon was one of the ace recruiters on Richt's staff. Muschamp hired him when he wasn't retained by Smart.

This is real nitpicky but it might help a tad to specify that this Q&A was with a recent HS recruit. At first I thought this interview was with mcclendon talking about when HE was being recruited and was going to say something about SC.

Like I said, very nitpicky, just passing along :)

Sure. They don't give specific examples of better jobs while recruiting people to play for them at the school they're at.

What's important about this is the context. SC offered him the WR/CoOC job, which was a better job than the one he previously had a UGA. So yes, Coaches leave for better jobs.

You're reaching.

McClendon was honest to the kid. I appreciate that.

Is it really that specific though? He just named a top school IMO

Sounds like he was just giving an example and being honest to a recruit.

Most jobs are better than unemployment, so I'm not sure where you're going with that.

IDK, maybe I'm reading more into the tone of the kid's response with him thinking about how funny it was. I get the honesty part, but there are other ways to go about that more gently imo.

This. McLendon wasn't retained by Smart and Richt couldn't afford him at Miami so South Carolina offered and e would've been a fool not to take it

Obviously the line about McClendon stands out, but anyone else caught by how much it seems like the kid doesn't want to be at UK now? Comments about not committing early, Ansley leaving, and his NCAA "fix" was around commitment and coaches leaving.
