I'm sure it has been asked before but I;m headed up to Athens to catch the Ags & UGA game tomorrow. The only time I've spent in GA in the past was at beautiful Ft Benning. What are some bars and restaurants I need to check out? Hopefully this is the right forum for the question, I rarely post on here.

can you give us a bit more on when you're coming in, what kind of food or bars you like, your age, etc.

Wife and I are in our 30s, don't like the over the top fancy type bars. More into the hole in the wall type places with good music, not rap. And so far as food, just about anything

And now I regret looking up toppers on my government computer

The Globe is a pretty low key place
Last Resort downtown is a great restaurant - get the white chocolate cheesecake if they have it
If you like beer (you're an aggie so IDK) - go to Creature Comforts brewery - also downtown
Pretty much just walk around downtown until you see something you like

Thanks, I'll have to check out Creature Comforts, my days of cheap beer are long behind me and like checking out local breweries. Guess I should have thought of breweries considering Terrapin is there too I think

You and your "wife" can enjoy a fabulous evening at the Little Kings Shuffle Club. Athens hottest "wife" friendly club. And this place has everything.
Opened in the back of a ladies footlocker, this place will have you rocking your socks off. They have everything...furrbies, freaks, freezing cold air, a stuck up kitten that wont sign autographs, and look over there its a human parking cone.

Creature Comforts should definitely be at the top of your list if you are a beer guy. I'd recommend Trappeze for lunch or dinner too- they are about 2 blocks apart. Trappeze has the best combo of food + beer in town. Really really good stuff, but usually pretty crowded if going Saturday night.

trappeze is a great spot for an early 30s married couple. You avoid a lot of the college crowd, the place is pretty laid back, and they have a crap ton of beers.

I would definitely go to Terrapin if you have the time, well worth it.

yeah I've noticed that recently. Not sure what the motivation behind it is, probably an auburn fan.

I agree. Terrapin is a little better than creature comforts IMO. Both are good but terrapin happens to make my favorite beer.

While I LOVE Terrapin, Creature Comforts has one of the best beers I've ever had in their Tropicalia IPA. It's just fantastic.

I'm not sure what an over the top fancy type bar is, but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't find one in Athens.
